Super User BrianinMD Posted August 4, 2018 Super User Posted August 4, 2018 Got my Curado DC, spooled some line on it to test in the yard. On setting 4 it cast well, on 1 it's very very good. However not sure I have it completely setup right. Even on 1 the backlash is easy to control but makes me wonder if I am doing something wrong. Videos show it being cast with no touch of the spool with no backlash at all, and that is not the case. Anyone with experience with DC reels have any thoughts or am I expecting to much? 1 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted August 4, 2018 Super User Posted August 4, 2018 Setting 1 is for ideal conditions. Setting 2 is for braid and mono. They also say to set the tension a hair tight. Should be some instructions in the box. 1 Quote

Otherwise your advice is spot on. Wind aside I'd also imagine casting trajectory is a factor. With my non digital reels I can cast a senko without thumbing at all if they are set up correctly for my casting style 2 internal brakes, 3 external and spool tension just tight enough to eliminate wobble. The line drive casts, not so much. Lastly don't completely trust those videos. I'm a bit anal about things so I actually counted the revolutions of the handle in one of the video where the guy casting claimed the weight went over 50 yards. Unless he had a 15.1.1 version that was not the case in the 20 cranks it took to reel the weight back in. 1 Quote
Texan89 Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Setting one is minimal breaking assistance so you still have to work it with your thumb some (it’s just more forgiving then a non dc reel) The day I got mine in I had a backlash or two on some cheap line just getting a feel for it on setting one. Super User BrianinMD Posted August 7, 2018 Author Super User Posted August 7, 2018 I posted this in another thread but forgot on this one if anyone looks here. I ended up going out and playing with it some more, and found the sweet spot. Tightened up the cast control knob a little bit and it turned out great. On mode 4 was able to get decent cast distance compared to a similar setup I use all the time and skip a gravel driveway with no backlash and no thumb. Turned it to other modes and distance got progressively longer. On mode 1 the distance was well past the similar known setup and still no backlash and no thumb. Was frustrating at first but once I realized my error and correctly set it up it worked extremely well and as advertised. 1 Quote
Wingman87 Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 I too was wondering about this, I loosened my tension knob until there was barely any spool movement on the spool and got some serious backlashes on setting 1. I’m thinking maybe I need to tighten the tension knob more than I’m used to. Quote
