jack1 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 What are the overall advantages of having a color fish finder compared to the traditional black/white? I'm planning on getting a unit, but can't decide if I should invest the extra $ into a color unit. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted February 13, 2008 Super User Posted February 13, 2008 Target separation is better with color for example, you can easily tell a rock from a stump. I don't ever plan to go back to black and white. It would be like buying a b/w television. Quote
jack1 Posted February 13, 2008 Author Posted February 13, 2008 I've read somewhere that you could even distinguish between different species of fish as wellthe length and colors the fish arches display. Any truth to that? Quote
shortbasser Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 A whole lot less glare and easier to see even in direct sunlight. No need to shade it to read it. For sure, no more black/white. I love my Lowrance unit. Shortbasser Quote
ba7ss3in Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 imho, you will love the color units. sometimes at night i have to turn the unit of because of the bright light but it is great Quote
HPBB Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 those that say " you don't need color" haven't really used one . If you had to pick get the color and once you go color you will not want to use a BW unit again Quote
BassinDave Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Another vote for color. Amazing difference. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 14, 2008 Super User Posted February 14, 2008 Plus what the guys said...it is fun to watch the screen in color. I am waiting for the high definition units to be released. Quote
Branuss04 Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 I jsut went to a fish finder seminar where a rep from hummingbird spoke about color finders He said it just like computers, the quality is going up and the price is coming down. The density of the graph was amazing. I love my Lowrance X96 that I just got, but If I ever get another FF, it will be color. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted February 14, 2008 Super User Posted February 14, 2008 Color, Color, Color...It is like night and day. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 14, 2008 Super User Posted February 14, 2008 I'll still old school. I have color units and monochrome units and prefer the color units for GPS mapping and the monochrome for sonar. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 14, 2008 Super User Posted February 14, 2008 I started out with a Hummingbird Super 60 Flasher so I can tell a stump from a rock; all I want to know is the depth so color is a waste of money. Quote
