Chance_Taker4 Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 I am not a braid to leader fan. I like having one solid line. I don't have confidence in my knot tying ability and worry more about the knot than actually fishing. But anyway, I was just curious what other use for line; these are my setups. Spinnerbait/Chatterbait: 10# Mono Crankbait: 12# Fluoro Topwater: 12# Mono T-Rig/Shakey head: 10# Fluoro Drop Shot: 8# Mono or Fluoro C-Rig: Braid (various sizes) Jigs: 15# Mono Flipping/Punching: 40# Braid Frog 40# Braid Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted August 2, 2018 Super User Posted August 2, 2018 Line selection for me is predicated on a number of variables. This includes but is not limited to casting distance desired, the presence of cover or the lack there of, and bottom composition (zebra mussels, rocks, trees, weeds, or swamp thing). That said, I'll go with this ~ Spinnerbait/Chatterbait: 12 - 15lb InvisX Fluoro Crankbait: 10 - 17 lb InvisX Fluoro Topwater: 10 lb Braid (spinning gear) 30 lb Braid Casting gear Sufix 832 Jerkbaits: 10 lb Braid (spinning gear) and 10 - 12 lb InvisX Fluoro (casting gear) T-Rig: 15lb InvisX Fluoro or 30 lb Braid Sufix 832 Shakey head: 10 - 12 lb InvisX Fluoro Drop Shot: 10 lb Braid / 8 lb AbrasX or Tatsu Fluoro leader C-Rig: Does Not Happen Jigs: 15 - 20lb AbrasX or InvisX Fluoro or 30 - 50 lb Braid Sufix 832 Flipping/Punching: don't do much but the little I do it's 40 - 65 lb Braid Sufix 832 Frog: 40 - 65 lb Braid Sufix 832 Swimbait - (over 2 oz) 20-25lb Mono or 50 lb Braid A-Rig: 20 lb Tatsu Fluoro Blade Bait: 10 lb Braid (spinning gear) or 12 lb InvisX Fluoro (casting gear) Spybait: 10 lb Braid (spinning gear) Sufix 832 Hair Jigs: 8 lb Braid (spinning gear) Sufix 832 A-Jay 1 Quote

diversity210 Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Topwater Frog: 50-65 pound braid Topwater Spook, popper, buzzbait, wopper plopper: 15lbs braid to 12lbs mono leader. Yes its weird but I get better hooks ups this way Jerkbaits/spybait: 12lbs fluorocarbon Crankbait: 12-15lbs flurocarbon. I should be throwing 10lbs fluorocarbon to get all the depth out of my cranks but I just dont trust it Jigs: 15-20lbs braid with 10-12 flourocarbon leader Chatterbaits: 12lbs Flurocarbon Texas/Carolina Rig - 20lbs braid to 12lbs Fluorcarbon Panfish - 6lbs monofilament Dropshot, shaky head, ned rig (finesse): 10lbs braid with 6-8 fluorocarbon leader Spinnerbait: 15lbs braid Flipping/punching (rarely): 30-50lbs braid Spoon (Rarely): 12-15lbs fluorocarbon I dont have a set up for large hard swimbaits because I never throw them. I need to start though. I hear they are great hear in california. If anyway has suggestion for line setup on large swimbaits. Let me know. I dont throw Alabama rigs. No offense to those who do use Alabama rigs, but I just refuse to look that goofy to fish. All of my line is Seagar InvizX/AbrazX Flurocarbon, Suffix 832 Braid, Berkley Trilene Monofilament. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted August 2, 2018 Super User Posted August 2, 2018 I like to keep it simple, I use 12# Kastking Fluorokote on most of my baitcasters. I do have a topwater exclusive baitcasting reel that I have spooled with 12# Berkley Big Game I have a baitcasting reel with 30# braid I use for frogs and Carolina rigs. Most of my spinning reels for Bass fishing have 8# Kastking Fluorokote on them. I have 1 spinning reel with 20# braid on it. 1 Quote

Although (for the majority of my setups) I use 12# mono/co-polymer on MH and 8# mono/co-polymer on Med. and either 6# or 8# on ML rods, I have way too many brands laying around. I bought 3000 yard spools of 8# and 12# AN40 so eventually I will be keeping it simple. Might not make it before I die, tho. 1 Quote

Anything from seaguar fluoro, yozuri pink (which I think is way underrated and is now better than before it went off the market for a while), triple fish fluoro, ande mono leader, Berkeley vanish line, but my favorite all around is 17lb stren purple. Hulkster Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Quote Siege is one tough mono its tough but contrary to some reviews, I have found it to behave and cast very well on spinning gear. I have even used 14 pound Siege mono for catching stripers in the ocean while on vacation in cape cod. I think people that had trouble with it on spinning gear did not put the line on properly and it all twisted up. Thats the only explanation I can come up with. Quote
