Blgreene89 Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 I have a 15’ procraft 1520 bass boat made in about 1988. Needless to say the front deck isnt large enough to even lay a 6’6” rod on all my rods are in my rod locker on the left side of my boat. Thats nice, but everytime I want to change rods I have to keep going to my rod locker for a new rod then I dig half of them out to get one. I have rod socks on all of them that did help, but only problem is I want a rod for every technique, and it’s practically full with seven rods and reels already. Anyone else have or had this issue what do you recommend? A new boat isnt an option right now. Ill post pictures later of my boat. Thanks, Blake Quote
Super User Darren. Posted July 31, 2018 Super User Posted July 31, 2018 Can't help you with rod storage on a boat (yakker myself), but seeing it's your first post, welcome aboard! 1 Quote

Super User Sam Posted August 1, 2018 Super User Posted August 1, 2018 You will have to have them out of the rod locker and on the boat's deck or over the seat where you can get to them. Problem you will have will be having will be the lines getting tangled and finding the exact rod set up you are seeking. So when putting one rod down you have to make sure the bait is secure and you wrap the line from the bait around the rod at least one time to secure it. Otherwise you could have a disaster on your hands. When I had my little 18-foot Tracker I would do this by putting the rods in the order I was planning on using them in the seat area. Worked fine but did have some line tangle and hook problems every now and then. 1 Quote

I guess we will have to be on the same page with this. Quote
Super User Further North Posted August 3, 2018 Super User Posted August 3, 2018 If you can live with vertical rod storage, it's a decent solution. They got in the way of my back cast and I hated them...took them off the same weekend I installed them. Other people use them forever and are fine (lots of saltwater fishermen, jig fishermen and trollers who aren't terribly active casting). Now that I'm throwing flies a good half the time, I'm pretty sure that if I installed vertical rod holders I wouldn't wait until I got home to tear them off...they'd be over the side in the first hour. Super User slonezp Posted August 3, 2018 Super User Posted August 3, 2018 Google fishing rod caddy. Lots of portable devices you could probably permanently/semi-permanently mount to your boat that would do the trick. Quote

Blgreene89 Posted August 16, 2018 Author Posted August 16, 2018 Thanks, it took a lot of time and money. If I would have known what I know now back before I bought it I could have bought me a new bass boat! Quote
