Jm526 Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Hello, I have a 1994 Storm bass boat that I have to keep outside. I currently just use a large tarp to cover the boat and that has been working for a while. Lately with all this rain down here in South Florida, I can't seem to keep my boat dry. The tarp is not pitched or anything so the water pools up on it. My thoughts are to purchase a boat cover, universal, and do away with the tarp. Along with a cover, I was thinking to make a PVC structure to keep water from pooling up on the boat. Do you have any recommendations on covers, setups, or anything that will help? Thanks for your time and tight lines Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 30, 2018 Super User Posted July 30, 2018 Sounds like you are on the right track. If you're interested, I'll sell you one of these. https://www.cabelas.com/product/boating/boat-covers/semi-custom-covers/pc/104794380/c/104703480/sc/104559480/cabelas-denier-universal-fit-cover/738007.uts?slotId=0 In size EE which is for 20-22ft hull. It's essentially new. I bought it last year after my cover tore. Used it for 3 weeks until I could have a custom cover made. It's yours for $50 plus shipping Quote
Jm526 Posted July 30, 2018 Author Posted July 30, 2018 Ok I’ll think about it, does that cover have enough slack on the top so I can put a PVC structure? Also is it big enough to cover the motor? Also do the tie down straps have to go all away around the boat? Thanks Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 30, 2018 Super User Posted July 30, 2018 I have a 20ft 2in boat 93in beam with a 225 Optimax. It covered hull and motor. It came with all sorts of tie down straps of different lengths. I used the trailer frame to tie it to. There is a elastic band sewn into the perimeter edge so it will hug the sides of the hull. There is plenty of room to build a structure. I used 2 inch pvc to hold the cover up so rain would roll off. Its pretty heavy duty. 1 Quote
looking45 Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 There's an easier way to tent the cover than making a PVC structure. Attach a 2" piece of webbing to a caribiner, hook it to the bow eye and run the strap on top of the bow seat and the back deck seat. Attach a metal ring to two lengths of the webbing to form a V. Put caribiners on both ends and clip them to the two eyes on the transom, making the two lengths long enough to reach the back deck chair. Run the end of the long web thru the metal ring and cinch it down and tie it. Put the cover over it and it will keep the rain out of your boat 1 Quote
