MittenMouth Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 I’m trying to find a new, great jig for skipping. Something where the paint holds up and a really solid hook. Any suggestions? Quote
Brad in Texas Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Take a look at the reviews for the Strike King Tour Grade Skipping Jig. It has some interesting features. Brad Quote
Logan S Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 I really like Siebert's Dock Rocker head with the Deep Throat hook (Dredge series). The reverse angle on that hook keeps the trailer from sliding down while skipping. Paint holds up better than most I've used...But any jig will get battle scars after skipping all day. Quote
Fishin Dad Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 I have been skipping the Seiberts dock rocker with dredge hook for the past couple of weeks (about 6 trips). I am not gentle on where I skip these either. This jig skips really well and the trailer is locked on hard. I was not sure how this bait keeper would work, but it has been great. I have also used the Strike King Skipping jig and like it as well. It has a screw lock bait keeper that is unique and works well. I order my jigs from Mike at Seiberts wire tied and really like that. I also like supporting a company like Seiberts for my jigs and some other items he has. Quote
Dirtyeggroll Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 I would go with a Siebert Dredge Dock Rocker Jig over the Strike King Tour Grade Skipping Jig. Ultimately, the Siebert Jig is cheaper (3.85 w/ wire tie vs. $4.79) and you can use it for way more than just skipping. The Strike King Tour Grade Skipping Jig is an awesome skipper but snags a lot and isn't good for much else than clear docks. Strike King Tour Grade Andy Montgomery Skipping Jig Pros: -skips really well -holds a trailer really well with the screw lock (especially with a touch of super glue) -paint really doesn't come off even after banging it all over dock pilings and pontoons (holds paint better then any jig i have used). Cons: -does not come through cover well, if there are rocks or brush under the docks, the head of the jig gets snagged pretty easily and I only find it useful for skipping under docks -I sometimes skip somewhat hard and have knocked the skirt down a couple times. Siebert Dredge Dock Rocker. Pros: -It skips pretty well and comes through about any cover, whether it be rocks, brush or cables under a dock (I even use my dock rockers for brush and rock piles where I don't need to skip). -the skirt stays on really well with the wire tie -the hook is really cool (although, I admit I don't know if it adds any utility). Cons: -The paint comes off the Siebert jigs pretty easily. Flat trailers can also help with skipping. I pinch the top 1/2" off of a Strike King Rage Bug to use as my trailer and really like the way it skips. Quote
boostr Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Siebert Arky, the Strike King Danny Brauer Structure Jig has a great head for skipping. Quote
SDoolittle Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 I find that the trailer is just as important as the jig when it comes to skipping. Quote
