Is this a good time of the year to throw one of these. I have been looking at Rapala's X-Rap's and Smithwick Devil Horses. Which one of these do you prefer and what's your favorite color. I live in western PA. about 50 miles east of Pittsburgh. Also, do you have a preferred method of fishing them.

Traditionally, they're best around the time that bluegill are spawning (and thrown around these same bedding areas), which usually means post-spawn in the bass world. Color-wise, that also means gill-like color patterns are popular, as are feathered rear hooks in some cases. Lots of options - they all work.

Thank you for that information.

I just tried one of my new River2Sea Lane Changer double prop baits. I didn't catch anything but was very impressed with the look and performance of the bait in the water and I would highly recommend you take a look at them as well!

The devil's horse is an old favorite for me. Shad colors have been best for me. Cast and vary the retrieve from a slight twitch to hard pulls, and experiment. Sharpen the factory hooks or replace them with better quality hooks. This lure has a proven track record on bigger bass. Good luck

Brett's _daddy and Mobasser,

Thank you for your replies. Mobasser, would you consider the silver with the black top a shad color?

I like them during the summer too. I like the Yo-Zuri 3BD Prop.
