Super User burrows Posted July 28, 2018 Super User Posted July 28, 2018 As we all know the dc reels are nothing new at least not to the Japanese domestic market, I have no reel knowledge on them other then a ton of hype of the internet/you tube I know a a lot you guys have experience with them. Which finally brings me to the question how are they in the long run? is maintaining them different? Do they last? Some one pls Weigh in on this? Quote
CrankFate Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 I have no idea. And I’m not exactly happy with the fact that, at some point in the not so distant future, I’m going to have to get one to see if it’s really just a gimmick or not. 1 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted July 28, 2018 Super User Posted July 28, 2018 I have had four different dc models and I can assure you they are very reliable. The dc module is self contained requiring no maintenance. The new curado dc at $250 should give anyone wanting to try one an affordable opportunity. 3 1 Quote
Maico1 Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 Been fishing with DC reels since they first hit the market and all of them are in excellent working condition ( Conquest DC, Calcutta Conquest DC, Calais DC and Antares DC). Shimano has done nothing but fine tune them over the years. The first generation DC Calcutta Conquest did have a glass eye that you would need to swipe clean with alcohol and a q-tip and was wrapped with sealed copper wire. But as Dwight said they are now self contained and you maintain them like any other reel you own. Certainly have seen the negative about DC reels but in my opinion that comes from those not really in the know and just pass on what they have read.....My latest DC is a 16 Antares which was completely torn down out of the box and put back together, it is always nice to know what you are working with...... 1 1 Quote
Outdoors Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 I too own an Antares DC 16. I'm guessing I had it for about a year now, and it was purchased new in the box. I don't know about the longevity of them though, unfortunately... However, some people still have their shimano calais dc it seems. Quote
