Jim Mac Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 I was given an old Minn Kota motor(3 speed, 18 lb. thrust), and the screw that tightens the head to the shaft is stripped. So the head is loose and spins. Is there a easy fix for this? If I can fix this, I will use it on my kayak. Thanks. Quote

jbmaine Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Can you give us a pic of what's stripped? With more info it could be an easy fix. Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 26, 2018 Super User Posted July 26, 2018 There are lots of ways to replace stripped threads with a thread insert. Do a Goggle search on fixing stripped threads with a insert. Tom Quote
Jim Mac Posted July 26, 2018 Author Posted July 26, 2018 It's a short screw on the back of the motor's head, about 1/4" thick and 3/8" long. It's supposed to screw into a hole in the shaft, but it's stripped. Are you guys saying to drill thru the shaft and use a bolt and a nut? How do I do that without damaging the wires? The way it is now I can pull the head right off and see the wires. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted July 26, 2018 Super User Posted July 26, 2018 Pop Revit. You can make it as complicated or simple as you want, A pop rivet is as simple as it gets. Quote

It would help in giving you the best advise. Quote
Jim Mac Posted July 27, 2018 Author Posted July 27, 2018 Thanks all. It is a set screw. It's an allen head with a pointed end. My guess is the hole in the shaft is stripped. I would post a pic if I knew how. That is WAY beyond my knowledge. Quote
