Badonkadonk99 Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Hey all, so I bought rods from Craiglist and it came with a shimano cruxis 200 baitcaster, it wasn't casting far at all and I played with the setting and everything and it just sucked lol so I opened it up cleaned all the gear applied a small amount of ardiant reel grease on literally everything that I saw now the drag isn't working and it isn't clicking and yes I have put the small screw and the spring in the star and the turning knob that adjusts the speed of the line falling isn't working as well and I haven't missed any washers or anything I literally have everything that's in the schematic except this small red thing, but that shouldn't make a big difference but idk Quote
BuzzHudson19c Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Welcome to the forum. Did you take it apart or just take the cover off and try to clean it out? I have noticed with my baitcasters, especially the middle road ones, have to be taken down to pieces once a year and thoroughly cleaned or they start having random noises and issues. A note; when you take it apart put everything in the order you took it off in a line on a piece of white paper or cloth. Makes reassembly much easier. Quote
Badonkadonk99 Posted July 25, 2018 Author Posted July 25, 2018 Yeah mate took the whole thing apart now that it's together it's also making a noise in the gears, so there's a noise in the gears drag not working and the small circular adjustment isn't working and when I turn the wheel the spool doesn't move so should I just ******* throw it away lol? Idk what I did wrong but oh well Quote
kenmitch Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 There's not a whole lot of stuff in there. Search youtube for a teardown video or two that you can watch step by step to see if you can figure it out. It's probably a simple fix anyways. Quote

Those brakes click up and down I would click them all on or up till you get the hang casting and adjust the tension knob. That’s actually a very good braking system. Put a drop of oil on all the bearings also. Look for a reel repair guy around ask local tackle shops for that repair should only cost you 15 bucks? Hopefully. Keep us posted! And welcome to bass resource! Quote
BobP Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Sounds like you have minimal experience as a reel tech. You should never take one apart without a reel schematic on hand and you need to lay out the parts in order as you take them off. Best advice is to send the reel to DVT, who is a site sponsor for service/repair. It doesn’t cost that much and you get back a reel that will work as well as it can. Quote
Badonkadonk99 Posted July 25, 2018 Author Posted July 25, 2018 well after 8 hours of stress i got it to work lol, one washer was upside down, thanks for the help anyways! 2 Quote
Badonkadonk99 Posted July 26, 2018 Author Posted July 26, 2018 Well putting all brake pads on is too much I believe I just have 2 on and works but doesn't cast far, maybe 30 feet for 2 brakes on is that fine? And when I take off all the brakes I'm always getting a backlash when the lure hasn't even hit the ground but it goes far than a backlash than lure Hits the ground bc of the backlash, is that because I'm inexperienced or is my reel doing something wrong thanks again! Without knowing your experience level with baitcasters it's hard to say if it's the reel, or just the way you have the reel adjusted. How heavy a lure are you trying to cast and learn on? Quote

kenmitch Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 How small is a small weight? The lighter the weight the harder it'll be to learn how to cast. Something around 1/2oz would probably work better if you lack experience and are trying to learn. Quote
Badonkadonk99 Posted August 19, 2018 Author Posted August 19, 2018 I appreciate the help, but now I got a new problem on two outdoor 2000 fishing reels, opened up the whole thing cleaned it but when I came to screw the bail it won't screw it just keeps going, thought I missed something so I opened up the bail on the other one and same thing.... Lol are the reels just bad or did I miss something because it's driving me nuts. Thanks again also u guys suggest a good spinning reel under 60? Like a Size 20/2000 would be great thnx Quote
