Tommyjon34 Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Hey guys, fresh to this site looking for some advice. Never owned a specific crankbait rod, however I have the idea of the specs I want to look for, either medium or MH and a moderate to mod fast action. My problem is I'm trying to find a 2 peice rod that is still quality around $100-$200. Having a hard time finding a 2 piece rod with a moderate action. Any help or suggestions are appreciated Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 23, 2018 Super User Posted July 23, 2018 Welcome to BR. Do you have any idea of the rod length you are looking for, spinning or bait casting and crankbait models like deep diving? Most bass anglers today prefer 1 piece rods however there are a few quality 2 piece rods available from St Croix and Fenwick. Tom PS, Tackle Warehouse sells 2 piece Mojo Bass rods $140 Quote
J.Vincent Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Fenwick Lunkerstik LST68MH-MFC-2 I think it's an $80 dollar Rod, but they they are currently out of stock on the Fenwick webpage. The only other moderate 2pc I know off the top of my head is the Veritas 9 footer. But that's probably not an ideal Rod . Quote
OnthePotomac Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Did you check Cabelas rod selection? They offer a bunch of rods in 2-piece. Fifteen years ago I grabbed a 2-piece MH 6'6" Tourney Special from them to put in the trunk for a Florida trip and the doggone thing is still going strong with my grandson. It is surprisingly light for a rod of 15 years ago. I think I paid $70 for it. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted July 23, 2018 Super User Posted July 23, 2018 Look at the mid level rods from different companies, and ignore the labeling. Most of these are good sticks made with blanks quite suitable for cranking, even though they are not "cranking rods". One of my favorite "cranking rods" is a slightly modified Shimano Sojourn from a while back (the newer ones are a$$). Quote

I am looking for a casting rod that's about 7 feet. Tried tackle warehouse, just having a hard time trying to filter out the one piece rods. Quote

I searched the mojo bass rods and they all have a fast action. I already own a mojo bass rod, the 7'1" MH fast action, great rod and very versitale, it's just a little stiff for throwing cranks. Tim Kelly Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 I tend to buy 2 piece rods as all my bass fishing involves a flight (no bass in the UK). I've tried to find something suitable and failed so far. I have a Daiwa Airedge glass cranking rod, 2 piece, but it's only 6'6" and I find it really difficult to cast accurately with it for some reason. If you have the patience and inclination you might find something JDM, but as they tend to use shorter rods you almost certainly won't find anything in the 7-8ft range in a glass or composite. On the other hand, the "regular" action is mod fast, so if you don't mind carbon, then you may find something. I bought a Volkey 7'6" a couple of years ago, which may have worked well, but I took it out fishing in the sea and it was a rough day and I managed to tumble onto the rod and break it before having a chance to use it in anger. The joys of importing! Quote
