TylerT123 Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Are Dobyns Rods worth the sacrificed sensitivity for a balanced rod in your opinion? I don’t think I’d notice if it was balanced or not, I don’t fish all day, and I’m more focused on the technique. I don’t think it’d be worth it to me. 1 Quote
CroakHunter Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 I've had unbalanced combos before and they seemed very un-sensitive. Just my .02 2 1 Quote

evilcatfish Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 I feel like all my dobyns rods are pretty darn sensitive. Granted, the DX are more sensitive than the lower priced lines but even my fury and Sierra rods are pretty solid. Now we just need that enthusiast level dobyns series to drop... Quote

Super User WRB Posted July 22, 2018 Super User Posted July 22, 2018 What is superb customer service worth? Dobyns rods are light weight state of the art graphite rods, sensititivety is up to your intrepation. Tom Quote
Backroad Angler Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 totally worth it and honestly the dobyns are very sensitive imo Quote
Pat33 Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 All Dobyns here. The balance is well worth it. Customer service is 2nd to none. Quote
Robert Riley Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Yeah. Also, think about how sensitivity is going to be one of the hardest things to measure. Weight, balance, customer service and build quality are not hard to measure. And that's why I fish Dobyn's. Quote
5by3 Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 They are great rods. I still tend to use Loomis rods for my bottom contact rods as they’ve set the bar for sensitivity imo, but I would not hesitate to use a dobyns either. That being said, I give the nod to dobyns for balance. Those rods just feel great to fish. Quote
jbrew73 Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 I have one Dobyns champion extreme that I bought used for about 1/2 price and I don’t think I would buy another. The sensitivity just isn’t there for me. I know it’s limited exposure but based on this rod I’d rather spend my money elsewhere next time. 1 Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 I've never found them to be sensitive myself. I've had something from every single line there is too. I keep hearing balance thrown around as well as lite weight. Maybe on the shorter rods. I just sold my 2 806 flip/punch rods because they were tip heavy, clunky and just heavy all around. Don't get me wrong, I do like some of the rods. But I've never and will never pay retail for one. I believe there are way better options in the price range. 1 Quote
jbrew73 Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 I agree. Not “bad” rods but not worth retail. I don’t really get the hype that they are balanced either. 2 Quote

Ok, so what are your other suggestions for rods at the same price point? 1 Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 One that comes to mind right away is the Daiwa Zillion. Can be had for under $200. Heck the new Powell endurance is way lighter and more balanced for half the price. 2 Quote

The one thing that sets Dobyns apart from the rest is not only do the majority of there rods balance really well, but they are one of the few companies that have a multitude of longer rods for anglers. They make a lot of great cranking rods, flipping rods, as well as swimbait rods. I met Gary Dobyns and his family at the Bassmaster Classic a few years back and he is definitely a genuine guy. Without a doubt Dobyns makes great rods and can recommend them with a lot of confidence. Not many companies rival the customer service Dobyns has. 1 Quote

GReb Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 I bought a Fury 734 this spring to try out. I’ve literally tied on every type of bait I own and really like it for moving baits. It’s comfortable to throw for long outings and has a nice backbone. The tip is not light or heavy. It’s just very versatile and really has no true weakness for the price. With that being said if you are going to use it exclusively for bottom contact baits I’d go in a different direction. For instance the falcon bucco is the same price as the fury and much better for jigs and worms IMO. Edit: Also I think it’s worth noting that this rod really drives bigger hooks very well. I’ve really been impressed with strength of this rod with minimal effort. And with that in mind it really is remarkably light and sensitive all things considered Quote
Smallieseeker Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 I have been using dobyns almost exclusively for 2 seasons now in all their line ups except the colt series and while they are not the most sensitive rods in their price range they are still plenty sensitive and still worth their price especially when you purchase them during a sale like I do most of the time. Despite what some people are saying on here I have always thought their balance was perfect even on there 8 foot rods. Their actions are the biggest selling points for me. They are soft enough to absorb the fight and runs a 5 lbs smallies will give but still have plenty of backbone to give a great hook set. I loose very little fish while fishing anymore. Dobyns may not be for everyone but for my fishing they are perfect. They are overall a great durable rod that still has plenty of sensitivity. And the company will back their rods with a great a warranty. You will not be disappointed no matter what line up you choose from imo. Quote
