Shane Y Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 I'm 30, when we were kids mama (great cook) cooked for us and if we didnt like (or want) what was on the table then we'd just go to bed hungry. We learned real quick not to be picky eaters. Now days I'm so thankful that we was raised that way because I cant think of anything I wont eat if I'm actually hungry other than mustard. I only like that nasty stuff when it's in potato salad. Something that blows my mind about today's kids though is when they get to someone's house the first thing they do is bust out their phones to see if there is a wifi connection available. I know times have changed but dang......get your @*$% outside and see what this big world has to offer. I had some of the best times of my life because my folks made me stay outdoors when I was young. 1 Quote

What she cooked was to please Dad not us kids! Now days kids nine hundred & forty two thousand choices! The wife and I went to see the Alton Brown show he is traveling around the country doing since he is one of my favorite chefs, a lot of science with his cooking. anyways in one of his monologues he brought up the topic of kids and he said one of the worst things you can ever do is take a kid out to a restaurant when they are young because then they have choices and think it is the norm. We all laughed but at the same time it is kind of true. I have to cater my cooking to the kids more than myself or if me or the wife wants something, we have to make something different for my 8 year old, the 2 year old eats everything pretty much. Quote

They put my plate in the refrigerator and gave it back to me at breakfast and lunch the next day. That was some good salmon 24 hours later when I finally ate it. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 25, 2018 Super User Posted July 25, 2018 My daughter will eat pretty much anything you put in front of her, but the problem is she doesn't like to be around other people when they eat. Fun times at the dinner table. 1 Quote

Some internet usage doesn't bother me as some internet usage can be beneficial for social interaction. However, if it consumes someone's life then something is extremely wrong. Like you said all kids nowadays sit on their phone and have no outdoor experiences like hiking, kayaking, fishing, hunting, swimming, etc. Everyone can rest assured that my kids will not contribute to the phone addiction as they will be rippin lips with me. ? 1 Quote

Another good post.....??I think a big lack of discipline now days is a major problem. I was WIDE OPEN as a kid but i got my butt tore up if i needed it. If it wasn't bad enough for a butt whoopin i might have to sit on the couch for a couple of hours when all I wanted to do is go outside. Or i might get grounded for a week. And when I say grounded my folks would actually look at the clock and say alright, at this time on such and such day if you dont do anything stupid between now and then you can go play, but each time I have to get on to you its gonna add a day to it. And that was it. I knew for a fact that when my mama or my dad said if you do "that" here's what's gonna happen....and you can bet your whole paycheck that it was true. No questions asked I suffered some sort of consequences when I got caught doing something dumb. And guess what? I learned some big time lessons from every single butt whoopin, every single grounding, and every single time more work got added to the work I already had to do. I think that when you are a kid you are like a sponge that soaks up everything. Let the kids drive but take the dang wheel away from them before they crash. 2 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted July 26, 2018 Super User Posted July 26, 2018 My son is a very picky eater but so is his mother. I can count the amount of things they eat on my fingers without the need to take off my shoes for extra digits to count. I on the other hand, eat everything. As far as kids these days, my son got mad at his mother and I for scheduling the family vacation on the week there was an update for his video game. 1 Quote
