Bass Pro Rods

I have $50 in gift cards from bass pro, I need a rod. I really like the feel of their carbonlite 2.0s. Any suggestions or opinions on their Carbonlite 2.0 Rods? (Not their other lineups or previous versions...)

Haven't fished one personally, but that rod feels great in hand. Keep looking at the 6'9 MH-XF model... Don't need it, but, well you know how this goes

Your responses will be all over the place because rods are very personal in appeal.  Having been on BPS pro-staff for 15 years, I never had a problem with their rods or reels.  I am with Quantum now but I would still recommend the BPS offerings.  Held up well and fished above their price point.  I put them through their paces guiding.  Since you have "free money" go ahead and give one a try.

While I don't have experience other than in-store handling with the 

Carbonlite 2.0 series, I do with the original (black), and second gen

white series.

 

I really like the Carbonlites from BPS. I think they're excellent at

sensitivity, and super light and comfortable to fish with. My only 

gripe is that they aren't offered in more lengths. I'd like to see more

in the shorter range (5'9" to 6'3") in ML, M. If they did, I'd probably

own all Carbonlites, LOL.

They are good rods. I really like the grip on the new ones.

ive never had anything go wrong with my bass pro rods.

The Carbonlite 2.0 baitcaster combo deal in Feb for $120 I got forever spoils the rod at retail pricing for me. The rods are nice and I have no complaints otherwise.

How do you like the combo? I hope they have another sale on them next year so I can get ML rod with an 8.3:1 reel and maybe a frog setup.

I have 2 of the original Carbonlite rods and I love them. They are extremely sensitive, I use them for wacky rigging senkos and for topwater stuff. I throw cranks on them also but I prefer other rods for cranks as it seems you get alot of vibration and movement in the rod when throwing for example squarebills. 

 

I recently bought a Pro Qualifer 2.0 casting rod just to try something new and I dont like them as well. They dont seem near as sensitive and the guides seem cheaply made.

I have some of the older BPS rods.  They have held up very well over the years.

After using the combo and getting used to it I do like it. When I first tried it out I didn't really care for it too much. I had to force myself to even use it at first. I would use it a little then go back to my Revo MGX combo. I contemplated even buying it at the crazy sale price as I'm not really into white rods and reels so maybe it tainted my first impression. It's a nice combo and I'm glad I bought it. Would probably pick up another on a similar sale.

Is the dual braking system nice for lighter lures?

I went with the 7' MH fast combo and haven't tried anything less than a 1/2 so far. The rod is rated 3/8-1oz so probably won't ever know.

I have six of the Carbonlite rods in 6'6 and 7' in MH and medium and just added two Carbonlite 2.0 7' MH rods and I love the rods (especially when they go on sale).  I started buying Carbonlite eight years ago because they are so light and easy on the old wrists for a day of fishing.  Never a failure of any kind with the rods.

No, honestly, never a guide problem, or breakage.  That does, however seem to be a popular theme and I could never figure what they were doing to warrant those comments.  Believe me, my rods have really taken a beating on the massive Tidal Potomac grass beds and performed flawlessly since day one.

What weight reels do you use on the 2.0s? Do they balance well?

When I see these threads all I think is we’re lucky we have so many quality options at all price ranges. There is hardly any bad gear out there. Almost all known reputable brands are good. There are a lot of options in the bass pro store that you can use that card on. Take your reel to the store and put it on a few rods. Or better yet, bring a lure, too.

I too got the carbonlite 2.0 combo on sale in Feb. It's my first baitcaster so I have nothing to compare it to. It is light and sensitive even with mono on it. I got it in 6'6 because they were sold out of 7' but I wish I took the rain check they offered me.
