nwstriper Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Recently picked up a GLX 893c JWR. Was thinking of using it for small jigs and T rigs but I have other rods that could fill that slot. Looking for other uses for this rod. Thanks. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 18, 2018 Super User Posted July 18, 2018 I have the 803c and use it for jigs and soft plastic. If the 893c is anything like it, it wouldn't be my first choice for topwater especially with longer length. I think you would be smacking the top of the water with a rod that long if your working a topwater bait. I would think it would be great for flipping and pitching a medium sized jig or any t-rigged soft plastic that you want to have a soft presentation (creatures, beavers, lizards, etc.) Quote
tkunk Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I have the NRX 893c, which is probably similar to the GLX, and I can confirm that it works for just about every technique, including topwaters. With a walking bait, you can twitch to the side, so the length isn't an issue. The only appications I wouldn't use it for are crankbaits and dropshot. Quote
nwstriper Posted July 18, 2018 Author Posted July 18, 2018 Thanks for your responses. Cool video of bass reacting to top water baits. Worth a watch if you haven't seen it. Quote
Bermise Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I use a nrx 893 for weightless worms and light 1/8 oz weight texas rigged. It’s almost maxed out with 1/2oz weight on it. Would not make a good flipping rod. Unless you pitch tiny 1/4 oz jigs with no trailer, it is not the best jig rod either. It’s a light 3 power. Quote
nwstriper Posted July 18, 2018 Author Posted July 18, 2018 Well, from what has been posted hear and what I have read else where, looks like it all comes down to personal preference. Thanks again. Quote
