That's the make it or break it moment when landing any fish, and when you have to pay the most attention, be it bank, shore, canoe, bass boat, kayak, or pool noodle.  Most fish are lost right at the boat.

Yea, it’s a tough call to make, fighing a bass is easier when standing, but I want to get seated before I bring the fish too close.  I use grippers that are teathered to my yak and get them on the bass as soon as I get it’s head up at boat side.

I do exactly the opposite, and usually get up to fight the fish, if I can.  You can see me start to get to land a fish at the 4:00 mark.

Stand up in a kayak ? You must be more flexible than me, brother.

Getting in and out of it is hard enough !

I don't have a kayak I can stand in so I'm sitting the entire time.  I prefer a net but the only one I have is kind of big for the kayak so I'll only bring it if I'm fishing treble hook lures or if the lake is known for pike.

Holding the rod to the opposite side of the kayak that the fish is on is my number one method. Just make sure you have enough line out to decrease the pressure on the rod and the fish is still in the water. Your line and your rod should not break this way as long as your drag is set properly. I'll grab the fish's lips or belly depending on the position.

If it's heavy vegetation and I'm using thick braid I just get the fish in my hands asap so it doesn't go back in the weeds by either boat flipping, grabbing the fish, or grabbing the line.

Can you get up out of a chair?  It's about as much effort.

It’s more like getting up out of a chair after a few beers, depending on wind and current ;)

Chad Hoover has about a thousand videos related to kayak bass fishing. His channel is Kayak Bassin'. You'll learn a lot from it. He has a 30 min show on WFN too. Some of his YT videos are older TV shows.

Exactly.  You can use this technique with your hand  fish grip or net.  I usually just lip em by hand.  But I seldom use trebles.
