Super User burrows Posted July 15, 2018 Super User Posted July 15, 2018 I’m very interested and excited in this new reel. It’s no chronarc or Curado k but man I really like what I’m hearing about it so far. I started fishing shimano reels in 2011 with the six pin centrifugal brakes. Can’t wait to pick one up. I really like the way the new tatula 100s are with the cool spider Graphics and and the t wing system at some what the same price point and was actually thinking of getting one but I just can’t let go of the shimano baitcasters and with this one having everything solid plus six centrifugal brake shoes, I got to have one even though I’m not to happy with the slx logo. 2 Quote
TylerT123 Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 Does the Slx come with different colored brakes like the older Shimano reels? Quote

Definitely should be a solid performer. With Diawa and Shimano you can rarely if never go wrong. Quote
ghost Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 I read on TT, SLX will have VBS braking, which sounds like the old, reliable 6 pin. No external braking like on the newer Curados. Quote

The problem with the pins was that they would fall off sometimes wile adjusting them. Quote
Texas Rig Adam Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Does anyone know when the slx will be available to purchase.. I heard that they will have a slx rod and reel combo to purchase that will be a little cheaper than buying the rod and reel separate.. any one know if that is true?? Quote
Super User webertime Posted July 16, 2018 Super User Posted July 16, 2018 SLX= Citica E and G with fewer vowels. Renamed and cheaper... win Quote

I saw it at icast Wednesday..pretty cool , feels really small , pretty smooth.. But , with only 3+1 bearings that means there is a bushing somewhere on that main shaft instead of two bearings unlike every other $99 reel out there. You also don't get x-ship or cross cut carbon fiber drag washers , it sports the VBS style brakes like found on the old curado e. If you want a citica , buy a citica , the slx is not it's replacement . (it replaces the casitas and caenan) The rep told me it's aimed at the younger market. Quote
ghost Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 I have the Casitas and it really is a good reel for $100. When it first came out, it was $129.99 and then it dropped in price to $99. I would think the Casitas would be a more refined reel than the new SLX, which has been stated for younger fishermen. I am interested in the SLX casting rod. Quote

Explain how what you wrote is different than a citica e or g? (Not current model) VBS No X-ship 3+1 bearings Quote

sarcazmo Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 If its anything at all like the old 50e series reels It'll be a winner. I'm super excited about the reel. Not a fan of the loud graphics, but it definitely looks promising. Quote

Super User Tywithay Posted July 17, 2018 Super User Posted July 17, 2018 It looks like a decent reel on paper, but I hate the enormous "SLX" logo on the sideplate. 1 Quote

The slx logo is shimanos attempt to get the younger generation to try their reels once they do, their probably in for life. Shimano hasn’t really tried to target the younger generation like other companies for example the company that shall continue to remain nameless has bright orange reels with interchangeable parts and the kids want ppl to see what they are using they want ppl to see what their fishing with favoriteusa has also done this with their YouTube signature rods and they have been very successful. I talk to youngsters fishing the bank and theses are the products they talk about. Diawa tapped into that with the fuego and now with the new affordable tatulas shimano realized they had to as well I think the slx is a good place to start many younger kids are wary of trying centrifugal brakes the six pin system is a perfect way for them to understand how easy they work and how efficient they are this will put them in the market of the more advanced brake shoes that the curado k And other more expensive shimanos have to offer. This is my theory at least. Any how I know I’ll try one for sure! 2 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 18, 2018 Super User Posted July 18, 2018 I am a Shimano fan and can't figure how this reel fits in with the reels they have at the same price point. Quote
Super User burrows Posted July 18, 2018 Author Super User Posted July 18, 2018 They will probably phase them out depending on the performance of the slx the casitas is an awesome reel but why would you spend 100 bucks on a graphite reel when you can get a solid aluminum frame from shimanos competition diawa ,the fuego, this is where the SLX comes in to take that 100$ market. Shimano has always been very cheapy on there lower end reels anything under the citica was always a good reel but kinda chinky they gave a small taste of their Engineering this is done especially with their spinning reels. Well this is where the SLX comes into the mix finally offering an aluminum frame reel at the 100$ price point. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I have one on pre-order for my 9 yr old son. Looks and sounds too good to be true at that price but we'll see. Quote

This is exactly how I feel about that as well. But the same exact thing that draws me away is what attracts some. My son fell in love with it as soon as he saw it. He has an Okuma Scott Martin rod that he immediately dubbed perfect for the SLX to go on.? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 18, 2018 Super User Posted July 18, 2018 I bet with some acetone, you could wipe that logo off. 1 Quote
