Super User Mobasser Posted July 11, 2018 Super User Posted July 11, 2018 Have you ever found any good usable tackle at garage sales or estate sales? In the last 2 yrs I bought a mint St Croix med heavy casting rod, and a almost unused zebco cardinal 4 spinning reel. A few years ago, bought 6 bags of assorted plastic worms- mostly culprits for 2 dollars. Most times it's junk, or so worn out its unusable, but occasionally you get lucky. Sometimes some cool vintage tackle as well. Anyone else found any good deals? 4 Quote
papajoe222 Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Not long after low profile baitcasters appeared, you could find some good quality round reels at garage sales. I found a AbuGarcia C4000 for $10 in mint condition. I asked the guy why he was getting rid of it and he said he just bought a new, low profile one. My wife has now idea what my gear is worth There are going to be a lot of happy local anglers when my time comes and she starts selling my stuff off. 1 1 Quote
Brew City Bass Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 A rep for Zoom plastics had a garage sale I stopped at and he sold me a 12"x12" box full of plastics for $5. 4 Quote

I've pretty much went through all of them. I maybe have a pack of baby brush hogs left from that box. Was the best $5 I ever spent. 3 Quote
WCWV Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Many years ago about 35, I picked up a under spin reel and rod for $5.00 it was all made together and was a pretty good set up. I used some and I think I ended up giving it to my nephew. It was called a Bronson, I've never heard or seen another. Quote
thinkingredneck Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 I picked up a Daiwa, Ozark, American Rodsmith MH 6 ft baitcasters all for $35. Good for kayak fishing with their fairly short handles. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted July 12, 2018 Super User Posted July 12, 2018 A couple years ago I bought a $90-110 rod that was in very good condition for $8 at a garage sale. 1 Quote
Super User Gundog Posted July 12, 2018 Super User Posted July 12, 2018 I get great deals at local yard sales. Once I got a box of lures for 10 bucks. The little old lady that was selling them told me she bought the box along with other items she wanted as a group at an auction but didn't look inside all the boxes. Only thing wrong with most of the lures were rusted hooks. Most where spinner baits and crank baits with some random soft plastic worms thrown in. When ever I find a vintage Mitchell 300 spinning reel for under $10 I buy it and give it to my uncle. He loves those reels and still uses them. Most of the time the Mitchells I buy don't work but my uncle uses them for parts to fix the ones he fishes with. There's a guy at the local flea market that casts his own jig heads so I usually hit him up when I'm running low. He has better prices than most places and I can order specific sizes. 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted July 12, 2018 Super User Posted July 12, 2018 About 5 years ago I could have bought 3 Original Bone colored RI Vixens for $10 but passed because they are bigger than I use. This is my biggest mistake in flea market hunts. Allen Quote
tstraub Posted July 13, 2018 Posted July 13, 2018 I got a at Croix legend 6 ft mh casting rod form a flea market. It's an older one, I think the model number dates it to 95 or 96. The only thing wrong with it is the previous owner liked to use the for grip as a hook holder. It had a pennecol deadbolt baitcast reel on it. I gave $20 for the combo. I upgraded the reel to an Abu orra SX. It's one of my main combos now. Quote
Wildbillb Posted July 13, 2018 Posted July 13, 2018 Just a bunch of old wiggle warts in box for $2 a piece. Guy only had 15 or so. He let me have the open ones for $1 each. Got some new banjo minnows for $1 a bag too. Quote
