Super User Koz Posted July 10, 2018 Super User Posted July 10, 2018 (Disclaimer: Before anyone gets upset, the post title is a pun referencing those books for dummies series. I'm not calling anyone a dummy. Sad that nowadays puns need to be explained before they offend anyone.) If you haven't seen it yet, the soon to be released Shimano Curado 150 DC is an interesting piece of technology. It uses an electromagnetic motor to power a microchip and sensors that control the baitcaster brakes without the user having to thumb the reel. In other words, when set up properly it promises no backlashes. This technology will also let you throw lighter baits not typically used on baitcasting rigs. The release date is in August and it is priced at $249.99. FWIW, I think that it's an interesting idea and I think other manufacturers will release similar products within the next few years. Which leads to the question, "What other rod and reel technologies will we see in the near future?" Granted, if some of this stuff ever comes to fruition, for me it would take some of the fun out of fishing. But it's probably coming, sooner or later. That being said, I do like the idea of the new Curado 150 DC. It has the potential to make life easier for fishermen and even help those new to the sport. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted July 10, 2018 Super User Posted July 10, 2018 DC reels have been out for well over a decade. Quote
