Super User the reel ess Posted July 9, 2018 Super User Posted July 9, 2018 I know some of you have gone to Mexican trophy bass lakes before. I want to plan a bucket list trip around my 50th birthday, which is 2 years and a month away. I have a few questions. What's the best time of year to catch a huge bass? Is there a "topwater season" ?? Is one lake better than others? Is it family friendly? My wife and daughter don't like to fish. Is there anything else around for them to do if they go along? Is it safe? Mexico isn't known for being a particularly safe travel destination lately. How long did you stay and how were the accommodations? Thanks in advance. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 9, 2018 Super User Posted July 9, 2018 I have been to Lake Baccarac Lodge several times. The numbers & size of the Bass caught there has been well documented and in my mind remains unmatched. To answer you questions ~ What's the best time of year to catch a huge bass? Any time you can get there - Big fish catches happen all the time. Is there a "topwater season" ?? Again topwater opportunities are there early & late each day, but November can be especially good for topwater depending on the lake water level. Is one lake better than others? Can't say haven't been to any others. Is it family friendly? My wife and daughter don't like to fish. Is there anything else around for them to do if they go along? Lake Baccarac Lodged is situated at the top of a mountain pretty much in the middle of Bass Heaven which is also the middle on NOTHING Else - so there is Nothing to do except hammer Bass all day - Is it safe? Mexico isn't known for being a particularly safe travel destination lately. I've not had any problems. How long did you stay and how were the accommodations? The rooms are neat, clean & air conditioned, Food is good and we can dine outside overlooking the lake - Killer View. We usually fish 6 or 7 days but shorter trip are offered - IMO go for as long as you can - you'll be glad you did. btw - there's no reason to wait two years - Lodge opens again after the rainy season in October - see you there. Super User the reel ess Posted July 9, 2018 Author Super User Posted July 9, 2018 Thanks @A-Jay. What's the biggest bass you've caught there? What can be expected? Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 9, 2018 Super User Posted July 9, 2018 Just now, the reel ess said: Thanks @A-Jay. What's the biggest bass you've caught there? What can be expected? You can expect to go bass fishing in a place that has a HUGE population of 3-7 lb bass. There are also MANY 8-10 lb bass - and I mean Many. The lake is 25 miles long and five miles wide and is 30,000 acres at full pool. And it's still bass fishing so they don't jump into the boat. But the guides are fantastic and will put you on the fish. How many you catch & how big they are will always be better than anything you've ever seen and I can make that statement confidently. I've had 100 plus fish days & I've had 10 fish days . . Every trip I've made I've been fortunate enough to catch at least one over 10 lbs. Nothings guaranteed but there have been times there where our 'average fish' for the day was 8 lbs. Read that again. My personal Best is an 11 lb 11 ounce Tank caught on 11/11/2013 ~ Going in a big group can reduce the cost and if you are serious I can put you in contact with a man who organizes several a year and you can get more info. I went with one last year - it was fun. And just in case I wasn't clear previously - this is a fishing lodge - and there is nothing else to do there. A-Jay Here's a few from our last trip ~ 2 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 9, 2018 Author Super User Posted July 9, 2018 Yeah! 10 lbs is kind of what I was thinking of. Quote
