Great video A-Jay.  I purchased a new Ranger RT188 this spring.  I liked what I read on the web about Lund Renegade but decided not to look at it because I was 100 miles from the nearest dealer.  I regret at least not taking a look at it in person.  I've heard nothing but good things about Lund.

 I would have to agree with you on the boat. I’ve had mine since April and  have over 30 hours on it, great boat. One thing I would recommend to Lund is they make the bench be split when lifting up. Sucks driver has to get up for something under the seat. If they made it 60/40 split would be an improvement. Only other issue I’ve had is the set screws for the bike seat that hold the height adjustment lever keeps working loose. My only 2 gripes I have. I run and fish my boat hard upper Chesapeake and Susquehanna, boat handles it all. Nice review, I to what to repower. I’m running the 150 4 stroke, want the 200 pro xs v8 as well. Waiting for you to make the move to see your thoughts.lol  Like you that’s for another time maybe next year.

Good review! I stepped out of my boat for the last time 10 years ago when I got my first kayak and eventually sold the boat. (Couldn't justify letting it sit idle.) Sometimes I miss it. Always told myself that if I got another boat it would probably be a Lund. Lund should hire you...you do good reviews.

Looks real good I’m still kicking around swapping my out 150 for that 200. Dealer doesn’t want my 150 so I would have to sell it out right. What size shaft do you have on that new motor? My boat came with 25” 150. That looks like a 20”. You said you went with a manual jp? 

I was trying to save some money. lol 

I installed an atlas 4” jp picked up 1 mph. Wide open jp raised 2-3” up, I can hit 51 and change. I would assume and hope you break 60 mph full throttle.

Transom is 25 inches so the whatever power plant is hung on it will have to be the "L" or 25 inch shaft. 

Yes went with a 6 inch Sea Star manual jack plate - needed to get the motor away from the boat a bit for the SI transducer.  Still working on the break-in so extended WOT isn't happening yet.  

I can tell you that with the 200 hp Optimax WOT I was just under 60 mph.  

 This rig is doing that a little past 3/4 WOT - so it looks like I'll get a couple more mph when it all said & done.

Bet there's a market for your 150 - figuring the hours and if it's still got some warranty left.

Thanks for the kind words & the support, I certainly appreciate it. 

 The ProXS is running great and I really do like everything about it.

My rig with the 200 hp 2-stroke Optimax was running 57- 58 mph @WOT with a  21" Tempest Plus prop.

Using that same prop and a 6 inch manual jack plate set at the same height as the Optimax,

the ProXS runs just a tick above that at 58-59 mph. 

The Pro-V Bass's IPS2 hull is not really a speed burner but it suits me just fine.

Thank you for the information! I am aware this is not going to be the fastest boat on the lake. I am currently running a Champion 187 (love it) so I am used sacrificing speed for performance. Basically just curious if the new motor made much of a difference. 

Funny how the first question everyone asks is “how fast does it go?”

Like you, I take care of my equipment. Running at WOT and maximum RPMs can’t be good for the motor. I feel guilty if I run over 5000 RPM for more than a few seconds. I once blew up a motor running WOT, now I get a little nervous pinning the throttle!

Anyway, Champion is for sale. Will be ordering a new boat for delivery in spring (live in Wisconsin). Still working up the nerve to go in and start the “dance “ at the dealership.

I have 2 brand new 12’ Talons and 2 Helix 9’s sitting in the garage ready to get put on the new boat, so I guess I am committed. 

Had the Champion for 15 awesome years, finally talked myself into treating myself to a brand new rig. Nervous and excited about the new Lund!

Knowledge is confidence ~ learn as much as you can about the boat, motor & trailer you want.

The buying process can be a lot less nerve racking if you know what you want & most importantly WHY. 

Hope you can service it where you purchase it - seems to inspire a little more ownership from the dealer if & when you need service.  Go do a meet & greet with the service department BEFORE you buy. 

Those are the folks you'll be dealing with after you buy it - not the sales person.

I have been talking with two different dealers trying to arrange a test ride but apparently I am asking too much as neither one are willing/able to make it happen. Maybe this is normal in the boat world but I think it is a bit odd. I sure as heck would not drop 55k on a new car without a test drive! I am sure it is a great boat and all but for that kind of coin I would like to experience it first hand before they cash my check!

As a comparison point, the 150 4 stroke (non-ProXS) 19p on the same boat tops out approx 50-51 mph.

Trying to decide whether to use the jack plate bracket to mount the talons or mount them directly to the hull?

A-Jay, I know you have yours mounted directly to the hull. I assume that there have been no issues?

FryDog, do you have Talons/Power poles?

Anybody have any pros and cons for either?

Yes my Talons are mounted to the hull - and there have been no issues.

BUT - during the mounting process - the mounting hardware MUST be through bolted and back plated on the inside of the transom.  While in use, these units place quite a strain on the hull & the hardware in anything other than flat calm conditions.  If not mounted as mentioned - they may pull off or out of the hull - which is highly undesirable. 

 As for the jack plate - I used a 6 inch manual Sea Star unit - besides offering a small bit of performance improvement, my main reason for installing the unit was to offer some relief (space) between the hull & the ProXS lower unit.  Needed it as I was getting a 20 % obstruction when using Side Imaging.  This was eliminated by the jack plate. 

 If not for the side imaging deal - I was very happy with the handling & performance of the Pro-V bass WITHOUT  the Jack Plate.  Finally I set the new motor on the jack plate & hull at the same level / position as the original motor.  

It runs great.

 I’m looking for your honest thoughts and feedback about the galvanized Shorelander trailer. I have not been able to look at one of these up close. I have however been able to see one of the diamond plate upgraded Shorelander trailers. Although it looks better than the stock trailer, I honestly was not very impressed with it. Still looks cheap compared to any of the fiberglass bass boat trailers that I have ever seen.

 I have learned by experience that the trailer definitely makes a difference as far as My own personal boating/trailering experiences and for the resale of the boat.  A cheaply built trailer will surely mean headaches for me while I own the boat and it will hinder my ability to sell the boat when it comes time.

 I am honestly disappointed in the quality of the trailer that Lund uses for their boats. I am debating between the Lund and a Phoenix bass boat . A 19+ foot Phoenix with a 225 Pro XS is only a couple thousand more than the Lund 1875 Pro V Bass. The Phoenix comes with a custom matched tandem axle trailer that looks like it is of a much better quality.

Unfortunately, the nearest Phoenix dealer is five hours away from where I live. On the contrary, there is a Lund dealer half an hour from my home and another Lund dealer about 20 minutes from the family cottage where my boat is kept for 90% of the fishing season. This definitely tilts the field in Lunds direction. But, for the kind of money I’m about to spend I really want to LOVE the complete package of the boat and trailer.

 I am also exploring the option of a Heritage trailer for the Lund. Still trying to get pricing and options from Heritage. Not sure if this is going to be worth all the trouble to try to buy a trailer from a third-party ?

 Would love to hear feedback from anybody else that as an educated opinion, would love to hear the pros and cons!

The Shoreland'r galvanized trailer I purchased with my rig in 2016 was at the time definitely an upgrade both in quality and in price.  It's model LUB29CBLWTMH

The stock painted trailer offered would have already needed repainting, however mine is still looking very good.

I would recommend the galvanized model for quality, durability & longevity. 

I will say that I did recently change out the stock carpeted bunks that came with this trailer with the Ultimate Bunk Boards. 

It's a Huge Improvement over the stock model !

I have a 2013 Lund and have the Premium Shoreland'r trailer from 2013. Came with LED lights, plastic inserts on the metal fenders, swing tongue, dual axle and surge brakes, load guides, boat buckles, marathon tires, bearing buddies. The brakes and rear hubs were replaced under warranty the first season along with refastening the plastic fender inserts. The wheels and lug nuts were cosmetically affected after they saw their first bit of road salt. The Lug nuts started to rust and the clear coat on the wheels peeled up in a few places.

 

Fast forward to today. The frame is still solid. The finish (I believe powder coating) has faded some but there are no chips or rust. The load guides are rusted and need replacing. Bunks and carpet are still in good shape. Fender inserts have come loose again and need to be refastened. Boat buckles are still working well, I lubricate them every year. I replaced the winch strap once. I replaced the tires after 5 seasons as a preventative measure. Bearings and bearing buddies were replaced last season as a preventative measure. It's going to need a new trailer jack in the near future.

 

All in all, the trailer is not a bad trailer. It loads well and tows well. I wouldn't hesitate towing cross country with it, 600 miles has been about the max as of yet. Were I to give it a grade, I'd give it a A- as far as functionality, reliability and longevity. Maybe a C- for cosmetics.
