12lb mono on all my rods other than drop shot (maybe braid?)  but thinking of going braid what can

you suggest for braid on spinning reels (lb test )  .   whats your thoughts   .....from ct

I use 8 lb fire line on spinning rods, +/- swivel and leader.  65 lb powerpro on BC, +/- leader. I fish in a lot of cover, particulate lilly pads

I use 15 lb PowerPro on my spinning set up because it does double duty (fresh and saltwater fishing). Works great for me.

Normally use ten pound power pro in yellow with a fluro leader.  Like the distance of the casts.  Usually a ten or twelve pound fluro leader.

i don't want to go to big on the lb test , we do have some big fish  but for me it's around

the 2 or 3 lb range.      10 lb test might work  ??

Yes, I have no trouble with 8 lb on spinning.  Had problems with smaller braid digging in on BC.

I use 15 lb or 20 lb Sufix 832, mostly because I use spinning tackle much more often than casting.  I like to be able to use one rod for most techniques.

 

The 15 lb 832 is only like 4 lb mono diameter, so it still casts like a dream.

15# Powerpro Spectra is my goto on spinning reals.  10# would work fine.  The weight rating is deceiving on braid because the actual breaking strength of quality braid like Powerpro or 832 significantly exceed their rating on the box.  If your eyes aren't so good like mine, go with the yellow stuff.  The standard green color in line that thin is hard to see against green tinted water.

I use 20 lb. PowerPro. But looking at all the replies that use 15 lb. I may be going that route next time. 20 lb. is about the diameter of 8 lb mono. Given the underwater visibility of black or green braid, especially when it has some age on it, I don't see any reason to go much lighter. I use a mono leader for some baits for visibility reasons. It's not clear enough around here to warrant dealing with fluoro. I see a lot of pros using hi-vis yellow braid to help them detect bites. I may go that way as well next time. When you're wacky rigging you'd like to see the bite before you feel it to avoid fish swallowing hooks.

20 lb Original PowerPro in Yellow. I use a marker to darken about a rod's length of line. I usually fished stained water but kayaked a clear creek yesterday and had no problems getting bit by brown fish. Of course, I was throwing the Ned. I don't see a reason to go less than 20lb with braid.

Godline makes really good braid that is inexpensive!  They make a black braid, which i really like, and its great for spinning set ups.

I'm using 10lb Power Pro with an 8lb fluorocarbon leader this year. In the past I use 8lb Fireline with no leader. I'm thinking about going back to that as I'm not noticing any difference in catch rate using a fluoro leader and it'd be one less knot to mess with.

yeah i love using Power Pro Braid and have caught fish finesse fishing with it and its RED line haha!  this year i started putting a floro leader on but i dont know if its making that big a difference!!  Might be with you there, might just go back to straight braid haha!

Good ideas shared above, especially since we don't know your exact intentions regarding how you fish.

 

Say, if you mean to try straight braid, no leader, I'd actually recommend 6 lbs. in Sufix Nanobraid. This would give you a bit more casting distance, and way stronger than required for 3 lbs. bass. 

 

Otherwise, for most finesse fishing applications, 10 lbs. braid to a 6 or 8 lbs. mono or fluoro leader is more than adequate. I do like and use the yellow Sufix 832 as it really assists line watching. But, with experience, I find I have learned ways to keep an eye of even drab colored lines. 

 

There are those bites that one can see before being felt.

I use 10lb yellow kastking braid with a 8lb fluorocarbon leader on my spinning set ups. Kastking braid has been really good so far and very affordable

Lots of people using braid with little to no problems , but there are some things you need to consider.  First, braid has no stretch, so feeling finesse bites is much easier than with mono or FC.  Much better feel of the bottom, too.  Whacking on a snag with braid is much harder on the rod than with other lines, so keep in mind you could break a hi tech rod if too aggressive.  Braid is much thinner for its pound test, so when breaking off, it's best to wrap the line around something like a dowel a few times rather than around your hand. You can get cut from braid.  Most who use braid like a mono or FC leader, but not all.  Some just tie to the braid.  If you use a leader you need to learn to tie a good knot to join the line and leader.  Forum strings about the knot often get dozens of different opinions.  Mine is that the double uni is the easiest to tie and very reliable if you use small enough leader to allow it to pass cleanly through the guides.  if it won't pass (it's a pretty big knot) then learn another.  My favorite for micro guides is the FG knot, but it is not an easy knot to master.  Many ways to screw it up.  Search youtube for "tying the FG knot."

 

Finally, you will cast so much farther with braid of 15 pounds or less than you do with 12 pound mono, you will be amazed.

Yep. 10# is more than enough. Breaking strength is usually higher

than stated, even if not, 10# is perfectly fine. I used it until I got a

deal on 15# PP 1500 yard spool. Otherwise I'd probably have stuck

with 10.

 

Set your drag properly, etc., it's all good. I always happen to use a

leader from 6, 8 or 10# test, as well. Top it all off, I use 1000 size

reels in fresh and salt....

Power Pro is ok but I'd spend the extra couple bucks on Sufix 832.  Vastly outperforms, IMO.

I switched from power pro original to 832 on one rod and j braid x8 on another. So far I've been enjoying the 8 carrier braids, they handle the line twist better than the 4. I use 15lb on my finesse rigs and 30lb on my non-finesse spinning rods. 6lb yozuri on the 15lb braid and 8lb yozuri hybrid on the 30.

I use 8 lbs spider wire flouro coated  stealth braided line.  I have had it on for 3 months on my spinning reel and havnt had a issue.  I have had to wrench them out of some decent trash and it has performed good.  First year using braid excusilvy on 2 of my rods
