Super User BrianinMD Posted January 22, 2008 Super User Posted January 22, 2008 Starting to look around, get ready to purchase a new boat around March/April. I can find a lot of information on styles of boats, alum. vs. glass, I am leaning towards a Tracker or Lund aluminum. What I can find is any information on what to expect to purchase after the boat to get it ready for the water, what kind of financing is available (interest rates, length available. I have about 3-4 thousand to put down, looking to spend about 14 thousand (wish i could go higher but have child support....). I know dealers would talk about these things but would like some thoughts from fellow fisherman who are not trying to sell me something. I mainly fish electric only lakes (black hill in boyds md) and the upper potomac. Any thoughts on Lund V-bottom or Tracker Pro-Team also appreciated. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 23, 2008 Super User Posted January 23, 2008 You sure have picked both ends of the spectrum. Lund has been the best alum boat for many years while the Tracker is not in its class at all. There are lots of boats which will fit your needs. Do some searches and see what you really like as far as length, storage, fishability, etc. Quote
dale Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 the v-bottom sits deeper in the water than the pro team so I would pick the pro team for shallow water/ river fishing. But with your conditions go used boat and save your cash for the child support. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted January 23, 2008 Author Super User Posted January 23, 2008 Was thinking used but I am not very good at the handyman items, don't want to get someone elses issues and get stuck paying a lot to fix it. I keep an eye on boat trader, and craigslist but whenever I see something that looks like something worthwhile its also priced over NADA retail value. The part of things that has surprised me most is the lack of dealers in the Germantown MD area. Hard to keep an eye on their used items. Quote
Popeye Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Bear in mind that most people's asking price is NOT usually the final accepted selling price for used boats/cars/planes (almost anything else too). IMO. Quote
