Recently startex using KVD L&L and noticed on 2 different setups that my drag wasn't working properly. Basically no drag at all. Only thing i can figure is the conditioner is getting the drag washers wet preventing them from working. Both reels are basically brand new. Curado 70 and Tatula SVTWS. Less than 10 trips on both rods. Sound familiar?

Let me guess. Braided line with no backing tied to the spool?

Unless you are the unluckiest person in the world and got to defective reels by 2 top manufacturers.

Do you know how to fix it? Take off almost all the line, take a piece of electrical tape and wrap the tape around the spool where the line is tied on. Wind the line back on.

There's no way for line conditioners to get onto the drag.

All washers in both reels were slimy wet tho.

Good idea but i swear it seems like the washers. All were slimy wet and when i spool i loop through the holes in the spool so the line cant spin. Weird

Take a Sharpie pen and draw a line across the spooled line and up onto the spool edge.

Pull on the spooled line and watch the line drawn across the spool and the mark on the spool edge, they should move together if the drag is slipping. If the line on the spool moves and the mark on the edge does't the spooled line is moving on the arbor.

Tie the line through the holes on the spool arbor, then wrap a piece of electrical tape over the spool arbor and respool the line.

I am with DVT.  I have two 70's spooled with InvizX 15lb and hose the line regularly with KVD and clean my own reels and have never seen it find its way on to the drag washers or those on my other reels, one of which has 50lb braid for frogs.  Just me perhaps, but I never tie line to the spool through the holes and although not necessary, I cover my spool holes with teflon tape before spooling on line.  If not necessary why do I tape the spools..just me.

I'd take the line off the reel and be sure the line is still tied to the spool. The line may have broken or the knot came undone.

That's drag grease.

It was emulsified grease. It had gotten wet somehow. Gonna strip em both and dry and regrease the washers. May go with a mono backing also.

For what's it's worth, I use a strip or two of electrical tape as backing, then tie the braid on with a pitzen knot rather than an arbor. Arbor's never worked for me.
