I have recently purchased a avid x and revo x spinning rod and reel. the rod is a 6’9 ml extra fast action I believe the revo x is a size 30. Was wondering if the reel will be to big for this rod? Thanks for any info!

It will work ok but the reel is on the large size/weight for most fresh water fishing & rods under 7'. The advantage is it does have a larger diameter spool which makes for longer casts since the line is not as coiled as tight as a 2500 series reel or a 1000 series.

That the reason why I went with the 30 size was cause of more line I could put on it and that the reel recommends 10lb braid now just wondering if maybe that the reel might be to bigger for a medium light the pole feels good in my hand just haven’t got it out to try it yet do you think it’ll cast bad?

Since you already have it give it a try. If it feels comfortable to you just enjoy it. It will probably cast further than the smaller models if the spool is larger in diameter.

30 is a great all around size for green/brown bass and most anything else that swims in fresh water.  You made a good choice enjoy it.

For bass fishing, 30 size is about as small as I like to go even on my ML rod.  More than anything, the larger spool allows for easier line management.  If an extra ounce or so is the cost of the bigger diameter spool, so be it.

That’s what I like to hear just seen people say they like to use 1000 or 2000 size for ml rod and started think I might have made the wrong choice

I like smaller reels, but recently read an article posted in a thread about a tournament fisherman that uses spinning reels only...and in size 40...for everything.  His philosophy made sense, but not something I personally would follow.  If the reel feels good to you once on a rod....then use it regardless of what any of the rest of us might think.

Size 40 is also ok but I think it's just personal preference spool size vs. weight.

I’m not worried about weight rather have more line on my spool I’m a scoob lol i didn’t know if the 30 size would cast like poo cause it’s on a medium light rod or could damage the rod some how
