I need some help and maybe some advice as to what to do…

A little over a month ago, I contacted a seller on here who was selling a rod.  He accepted my offer for the model he was selling (selling because of some health concerns) and I sent him payment in the form of a check for the agreed amount.  I sent the check actually to his father as he asked because of a particular circumstance he was in at the time needing surgery and not being at home.  His father who is an older gentlemen deposited the check on his behalf and the rod arrived to me on June 7th damaged from USPS with about 6” of tip broken off in an open cardboard tube.  I contacted the seller and spoke with him and he told me to reject the delivery from the post office and to send the rod back to him (he is the original owner) and he would remedy the situation.  The post office marked it rejected and I actually put the person at the post office on the phone with him to speak about what to do.  The rod arrived back to him safely and he contacted the rod company about a warranty replacement (as per their no questions asked policy).  He assured me that a new rod was on the way and he would resend it back to me.  He kept in contact with me until last week when he said he shipped the rod out to me. Since then, (6/27/18), I have attempted to call, text, and email this person after communication cut off. Could it be that he got a new rod back and decided just to keep it and my payment?  That would be awful if so.  I know I should use PayPal but have bought and sold so many items on here and other places using checks and money orders and this is my first issue in hundreds of transactions.  What can/should I do?  I hope he doesn’t have further health concerns and that is why he isn’t in contact, but at the same time, when he texted me that it shipped UPS last Wednesday, I should no doubt have the rod by now.  Any help/advice would be great.  Thank you and best wishes on the water!

Thanks for keeping it unemotional and providing the story.

I think that given the holiday and a weekend in there, not to mention oversized parcel, that it's a bit early for huge concern.   Would have been better if seller provided tracking number, but I suspect you are still going to be ok

I hope this is the case as well.  Last rod I bought was a used one.  No holiday during shipping, and it still took a couple days longer than I thought it should have.  I've bought many used rods, and this one took longer than any to arrive.  I would definitely be worried if the rod doesn't arrive by this coming Tuesday.

I would agree with Choporoz given July 4th just rolled around and plus it could be a mixture of that and health issues going on with him. I would continue to wait a a couple or so more days before really trying to investigate and get the situation taken care of.

I hope you aren't.  Anyone else on the forum live near him?  A visit with a  :baseball-013:  may be called for.  Or something a little more drastic.  :gunfight9:

If nothing comes in the next couple of days, i would suggest you post the user name so nobody else will buy from this guy.

Still trying and still hopeful.

Not for nothing but I always use PayPal for stuff like this for exactly this reason. I am hoping that he is just held up with his health concerns, I sure hope nobody would do that here.

Time to post his username and real name so the rest of us can avoid buying from him.

That sucks.  I hate liars, thieves and cheats.  :gunfight9:

Yeah, it really stinks.  I wonder if anyone on here knows him personally and/or could talk to with him and see what's up?

You sent a check to his father. Can you send a letter asking what's going on? Asking him to call you? Send it registered so you know for sure he received it and when.

That is actually a very good idea.  I was hesitant to look up a home phone but I guess I could do that and also call.  I am beyond bummed that folks would do this to other folks.  I always try to be upfront and honest (and in the hundreds of transactions I have done on here and other sites) as it was how I was brought up.  I spoke with someone else who also lost communication with him around the same time I did so I hope his health is okay.  I guess I am just trying to justify why this would happen outside of just being dishonest.  Thanks!
