Dante12 Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 I am a bank fisher, and currently have two rods. My go to rod is St. Croix Bass Mojo drop shot spinning rod. I do a lot of finesse fishing because I fishing mainly on a small heavy pressured lake and some game land ponds. I want to do more frog fishing, this place is packed with matted grass and pads. My second rod is a Medium Heavy Daiwa casting rod from Walmart. It works, but it’s not the best and definitely not what I need for frogs. The rods I kind of have my eye on are the St. Croix Bass Mojo (I do like my spinning rod, but I think I want to try something else), the Dobyns FR 735c, Veritas (just because Dicks sell it and I don’t got to order offline), and the KastKing Speeddemon. I don’t know too much on the KastKing, I’ve used their braid for years and like it. The rod looks nice and seems to a lot of bells and whistles but I don’t know how the blank itself handles. If anyone can provide input it would be appreciated, I am looking to stay under $130. Quote
Robert Riley Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 Since you are moving a frog rod a lot, I'd opt for the FR735, light, balanced and powerful. 1 Quote
SMITTY0045 Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 I’d look into the Powell inferno. It’ll have a couple of options for a frog rod that will still be sensitive enough to be used for jigs or heavier baits Quote

Just ordered a couple of the crankers. 1 Quote
BassFisher22 Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 I have used both the Mojo and Dobyns Fury. I love the Fury. Can’t say enough of good things about it. 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted July 6, 2018 Super User Posted July 6, 2018 Is your Walmart Daiwa a Jupiter? If so, I can see why it wouldn't be optimal in a place that is packed with matted grass and pads. I really like mine. I bought it in Florida and keep it there. It sees plenty of use throwing worms into lily pads, but I don't think it has the backbone for frogs in heavy cover. A Daiwa rod that you should be able to find within your price range that is a capable frog rod is the 7' 4" HF Tatula. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 6, 2018 Super User Posted July 6, 2018 I frog fish a lot. This is what I have. I paid $100 for it, but right now it's on sale at $79.99. I've been using it for a few years now and I highly recommend it. And you'll still have $40 in your pocket for some really cool frogs. You can spend more, but you won't get much more of a frog rod for your money. Now, if you want the rod to pull double duty and be used for another technique, this is not the rod for you. It's stiff as a pool cue and that's necessary for getting the bass turned your way and dragging them out of vegetation. https://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/fishing-rods/casting-rods/pc/104793480/c/104764680/sc/104823180/cabelas-tournament-zx-bass-casting-rods/1619298.uts?slotId=2 Quote

Nothing terrible with it, hasn’t held together well but serves as a good multipurpose rod. I did check out the Tatula’s in the store they are a little pricey and I’m not to sure what the difference is with the XT model. Quote

Got mine for about $100 Online. I can twitch a frog with it barely moving. See if you can find a post by ww2farmer and send him a PM asking if the Aird X 7' HF would work. I've no experience with that line, but he does and has said they are fantastic rods for the money....fishing way above their price point. My Jupiter is several years old, but only sees action when I visit Florida. So far no problems with it. Quote
evilcatfish Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 At that price point, Fury 735 or Daiwa DX. You can save 15% off either at TW if you order before the sale ends today.... Quote

I really liked how it felt, I was looking for something a bit longer than 7’. This one also had the extra fast tip. Just curious if someone could comment on it, and if it should be ok casting distance wise Quote

Not only will it work, but it is a fantastic frog rod for the money. It's the one rod in the Aird X lineup that seems to be true to it's power rating. Where as the M spinning rods I have are more like ML power, and the MH casting are more like M power. That's not a bad thing, just a "now you know" type thing. Quote

Just curious if someone could comment on it, and if it should be ok casting distance wise As a bank fisherman, you are already where many boaters are trying to cast their frogs. Start right in front of yourself so you don't scare that 10 lber away that was under the rod tip before you dragged that 3 lber in that you caught with a 70 yard cast. Quote
