joelhains Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 I'm looking at picking up one of these two rods. Found them both forsale on a local classified page. They are both spinning rods 7ft medium/fast and will be used mainly for smallmouth fishing (tubes, drop shorting, bed rigs etc). Is one significantly better than the other? I had the Loomis as one of my baitcasters and really liked it, but haven't held the lighter spinning version. I've heard really good things about the Fenwick also but have never fished one. What have been your personal experiences with these rods? Thanks Quote
BankBasser Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 I have no experience with the Loomis. I do have two Elite Tech 2pc spinning rods I keep with me in a case for when I have some time to kill between work appointments. I like them as much as I did my St Croix Avids, for what that's worth. Quote
Vilas15 Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Is the fenwick the discontinued elite tech smallmouth or the newer version elite tech bass? Seen many good things about the older elite tech smallmouth rods so if it's one of those I'd go with that. No personal experience with either though. Quote

I’d agree with him, I’ve seen too many bad reviews on the E6X. I don’t own the E6X or Elite Tech. Quote

Finding a new Elite Tech Smallmouth would be nice! I've got one spinning rod and 4 casting rods and don't think you could find a better rod for the money. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted July 6, 2018 Super User Posted July 6, 2018 Anything Fenwick makes is a better bang for the buck than Loomis rods below the IMX level. 3 Quote

One 6'9" ML spinning that I use and one that I got on closeout as a backup that still has its tags and plastic bag sleeve. Was just down your way today to Philipsburg to take the kids to the life sized Thomas the Train. Any parent here would understand the mass chaos of this real live train event. LOL. Quote

I didn't know anything about that, and I live nearby. My youngest grandson loves Thomas. My daughter said she took him last year. I didn't know anything about that either. She just sent me a picture. Pretty nice! Mine (spinning) is the 6'9" M-XF which I purchased after smalljaw67 told me what a great rod it was. Got my first two baitcasters for $77 and $78 shipped. What a deal. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 7, 2018 Super User Posted July 7, 2018 I have two of the Elite Tech rods and they are nice work horse type rods. They are not the most sensitive but they have plenty of power when it counts and are made out of nice components. Plus, they just feel nice in my hands. As far as the G Loomis E6X goes, a fishing buddy of mine swears by them. I have tried them and after fishing a couple of GLX's its hard to compare the difference. I would say they are both just a step below the St. Croix Avid. The only down side about the E6X is that if feels like a cheap G. Loomis rod. Not that it is a bad thing. It's sort of like driving a Chevy and expecting it to feel like a Cadillac. Quote
