I use 6'8" St Croix Avid, M, XF with Revo S 30. 10# floro. Casts well, and drive the hook in. Enough flex so I don't lose too many fish.

8lb HI-SEAS Grand Slam fluorocarbon coated copolymer

*I researched your set up - NICE !! ... Have not used any HI - SEAS Grand Slam FC coated copolymer before , how does it handle on your Supreme XT 30 ?

Thank you - the replies read like the : "who's who" of high end shaky head spinning rods (and for good reason) ... Megabass , St. Croix , G. Loomis , Shimano , Dobyns , etc. I'll take one of each (lol) !

Landed my biggest bass of the year so far, a 7.43lb fish, in sub 20* weather without an issue with 8lb HI-SEAS.

I will tend to use one of my M/F spinning rods with 8lb mono for shaky heads. I like a little extra power on shaky heads than I have on my ML/XF rods.

For those that use a braid mainline - do you believe you could still have an effective shaky head set up using a ML/F or M/F vs. a M/XF spinning rod ?

Why not?

*I ask because the current trend to use braid mainline + FC / Co-poly leader may mean a Fast  spinning rod could replace a Extra Fast  spinning rod or perhaps allow more ML action rods to come into play if you are in the braid + leader camp for spinning .

Yeah, I have 12lb braid on one and 15lb on the other. I still have a lot more backbone on my M/F rods though.
