What's your biggest Whopper Plopper catch?

I like fishing with the Whopper Plopper, but for me it's one of those lures that's really hit and miss. On some days the bass are on it like a crack head hitting the pipe, and other days it draws blanks.

 

I only have the 110 size in a few different colors. And despite the success I've had with it, the biggest bass I have landed on it was only 5.5 pounds. But I've landed lots of 2 and 3 pounders and I don't think I've ever caught a dink with it.

 

So, what's the biggest bass you've caught on a Whopper Plopper? What size WP did you catch it on?

I've caught 5 and 6 lbers on the 130 size here in SW Michigan. Those are big bass in my area, that said it's an all or nothing bait as with most topwaters it works on occasion but not day in and day out like a Senko. That said I have a rod dedicated to it because when it's on it is one of the best baits out there for bigger than average  bass.

I have all 3 sizes but have only fished the 90 and 110.  A couple weeks ago I caught a 4 lber on a size 90.  4 lbers are considered big here in MA.  It is all or nothing for me as well, although I've got hits from dinks all the way up to 4 lbers.

I have 3 90's in different colors to match the water conditions here, but so far I've only caught 4 on my black/yellow plopper. They were all right at a pound or so, haven't gotten anything bigger using one.

I fish both the 130 and 90 based on conditions.  The 90 probably gets the most use and that thing is a magnet for 15-20" smallmouth.  It's caught small fish, but the vast majority are in the 2.5lb+ range.  It creates some weird twist sometimes in current, but shallow smallmouth absolutely hate that it exists.  It's almost shocking that I can drop something that big on a fish holding in 1' of water from 100+ feet away and not only not spook them, but have them absolutely annihilate it. I have no doubt that it's a great largemouth bait, too, but seeing that 85% of my bass fishing is targeting smallmouth I'll never leave them at home any time I think theres a shot at a topwater bite.

I only throw the 110 and while I catch fish on it all day, it is most productive in the early am and after dusk plenty of 3poumders, but that is better than average around here

I catch fish all day with the Whopper Plopper the biggest being about 3-1/2lbs.

 

 

Caveat: I will say I think I would be catching the same fish with a buzzbait or other bait. The lake just has a lot of 2-3lbs. fish in it.

I have a 130 model, my catches have ranged from 1-4 lbs on it.  And a mid-30's muskie.

It's a 2012 Stratos 189 VLO

I caught my PB 4lb 13oz on a loon colored 130 20 minutes after the sun went down in <6' of water.

For me they work bes at dawn, dusk or choppy water but they will catch all day long.

110 and 130 for largemoth, if I use the 90 the bluegill won't leave it alone. 

It works well enough that I have a dedicated rod for the 130 setup. North fork edge IM 7'8" 6 power with a tat 150 on it loaded with 50lb j braid. It launches them! (had to get the 150 because it would spool a normal tat)

I had a 130 in bone that is now somewhere in Rainy Lake.  Not a smallmouth, but a Muskie about the size of Michael Phelps crashed and snapped it before I could even set the hook. Fish of all species just get violent with Ploppers..

Some very good catches, but no monsters on the Whopper Plopper.

 

Unfortunately, I lost one of my 130 Whopper Ploppers last night at sunset. I've been having issues with the braid digging into itself and when I cast the line snapped right at the reel. In the dark I have no idea where it landed.

 

Today I pulled the 30# Power Pro off of the reel and replaced it with 50# Power Pro. And of course, while I was at the store buying braid I picked up more tackle including another Whopper Plopper.
