Hey guys....i've got an odd problem with an Abu Garcia 5600C4.....when i press the clutch to cast the spool doesn't want to move....now if i barely push it forward then it spins smoothly and will cast...but everytime i push the clutch in it has this little glitch. When i take the spool out and spin it on the shaft it is perfectley smooth. Now here is something that may give someone a clue.....if i have the star drag off of the reel and push in the clutch, it spins right away...but when i put it on and tighten the drag at all then it has that little glitch that won't let it free spool unless i push the spool forward first. The spool will spin backwards just fine.....any ideas?

Have you found an solutions?

I have owned two of these C4 5600. One left one right. I have used the left one consistently for bottom fluking(summer Flounder) with no issues. But the othe other one that has seen less action is giving me the same issue. It wont free spool after opening bail, you need to roll it back a hair then it will freespool. I have dissasembled trying to find a cause the only thing odd I found was plastic shavings that came from the Pinion Yoke which moves the pinion gear away from the spool.

Update. I'm now positive this is the problem. The worn Pinion Yoke is failing to pull the pinion gear away and is jaming up with clutch washer/bearing container. Found these parts at ereplacementparts online.

Many people say toss it, but they are such great reels. Theres got to be a fix. Gonna order those and will let you know.

Contact Pure Fishing and get the newer pinion yoke.  Most of the other parts houses don't have it yet.  I tried Mike's Reel Repair, Dad's Ole Tackle, and eReplacement parts, none stock the new yoke yet.  It's the same part # 20664 as the yoke you have now.  The new one has a metal shim so the teeth on the pinion don't ground the yoke.  My new production 4600 C3 came with the revised yoke.

Update. I received the new part from ereplacementsparts. Like $3.  Came with the upgraded metal shim like you said above Redmeans..

Its now better than new. lol. Pretty simple fix once you familiarize yourself with the mechanics of the reel.

Hopefully others will find this before discarding any Abus'.
