Black Hawk Basser Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 I prefer mornings - there's something magical about the super calm water at sun-up. That said, I get more chances in the evenings. You can't go wrong with morning or evening this time of year, especially to avoid the heat. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted July 3, 2018 Super User Posted July 3, 2018 My PREFERENCE is late afternoon until dark. I enjoy it more when my works done for the day. But for best success I try to fish like this: Early spring : p.m hours primarily as the water will warm during the day. Late spring : A.m or p.m. Middle of the day for bedding fish. Summer : A.m before the heat. Water has had all night to cool. Night is often good too but I don't do it much. Fall: love the p.m bite , rarely go in the morning, but it's often good too. Winter: pm only, after the water has had time to warm. But as @Catt says " Anytime I can go " is a good outlook. Can't catch any if you're not fishing ! 1 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted July 3, 2018 Super User Posted July 3, 2018 Purely subjective but I like mornings for a number of reasons. 1. The sunrise. Just awsome. 2. Here's where it get's a little subjective....IMHO, all of the fish that moved up shallow all night long to feed are still bunched up there getting ready to move out to deeper water as the sun rises. More targets=More catches. At dusk, they are just starting to move back in. 2 Quote
LonnieP Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 I prefer to fish in the evening. I'm not a morning person. Quote
BigBassLoveSenkos Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 I fish both sunrise and sunset windows whenever possible. Lately the morning bite has been better... 1 Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 3, 2018 Super User Posted July 3, 2018 Since most of the 10+ lbs fish I’ve caught were between 1-5 PM that’s the time I want to be there. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 5, 2018 Super User Posted July 5, 2018 I'm fishing in the mornings. I usually have something going on in the afternoons. 1 Quote
Ksam1234 Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 I prefer mornings myself but lately I haven’t had much time to fish early and been going later and it seems to be just as good. Actuslly caught my Pb this year around 8:30 at night. 1 Quote
Ralph Nicholas Vito Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Morning for sure i have caught the most fish in the morning i mean recently i have caught fish throughout the day and evening but best time for sure is the morning for me RIGHT when first light hits too so very very very early lol (im committed) 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 5, 2018 Super User Posted July 5, 2018 My favorite is the dog days of summer, at night, on deep water structure! The sun is just dropping off the horizon, light & variable Southernly wind, moon on the horizon little after dark thirty! 3 Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted July 5, 2018 Super User Posted July 5, 2018 I fish mornings almost exclusively, starting a little before sunrise during morning twilight. Mostly because I have a mild antisocial streak, and I just prefer to avoid people....more folks are willing to stay out until dusk than to get up dawn, so I often have the entire place (and prime spots) to myself for a few hours, even on those waters that get a lot of traffic during the day. In spring, though, when I do get out, I'll go later in the day because, as mentioned, there is more activity once the water has warmed a bit in the afternoon. 2 Quote
BassNJake Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 I have had success fishing both mornings and night but my preference is mornings. I love the peacefulness that the morning brings. I like to be on my starting spot as the sun is coming up, so I put in when its dark. Then I get to enjoy the birds chirping as the morning sun brings life to the lake. Fishing is a spiritual experience for me. Having a fish blow up on topwater as the sun rises above the TN mountains is about as good as it gets for me. 3 Quote
LionHeart Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 I'm a weekend angler with a wife and 2 young daughters so mornings work better for my schedule. I'm not crazy about getting up at 4 in the morning after working all week but I enjoy eating supper with the family and putting my girls to bed so fishing in the evening is a rare event for me. 2 Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted July 6, 2018 Super User Posted July 6, 2018 Love watching the world wake up in the mornings on the water.....also really enjoy the water's going to bed at night after all the commotion of the day. Is there a bad time on the water....yes.....Holidays....sometimes these days and the way people act tend to have me thinking not so good thoughts about my fellow man but......is what it is. 3 Quote
sfpalatka Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 I fish both. My dissension based on the tide. I fish the St. John’s River in Palatka Fl. Success is based on moving water. In the summer higher tide in the morning after nighttime cooling and outgoing tide Quote
WVU-SCPA Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 If it wasn't for waking up before the alarm in anticipation of executing the game plan that my mind already created from the bow of the bed, I would be all mornings. I haven't found anything else that gives me the same feeling like coasting into the first spot in twilight hours. So peaceful yet so much possibility. 1 Quote
rejesterd Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Definitely evenings, because it's low-light, but the water has been warming up all day up until that point. Also it's when most of the largest fish in the lake start feeding, so they're easier to catch. I've had way more flurries at dusk as opposed to dawn. Dawn is also low light, but the water has been cooling overnight and most of the big fish have full bellies by then. Quote
FishDewd Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Depends on when the rain is expected to come. Rains in mornings I go evenings. Rains in evening I go mornings. I also go mornings to squeeze in a session before work. Quote
