What time do you prefer to fish and what do you think is better?

I do not like the heat of mid day in the summer and prefer night fishing at this time.

Fall and winter periods prefer afternoons to dusk.

Pre spawn mornings.

Spawn mid day.

Post spawn to summer transition mornings.

I prefer dusk. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like there is less light, for a longer period of time at sunset, than sunrise.

I think both are equally good, but I like the evening better cause I'm not a morning person. I have a couple of spots I can hit mid day with frogs and do ok, but It's no fun in this weather, so I usually wait till later.

Yeah, BUT the Earth is on an axis and the orbit around the sun is elliptical as well...maybe there's a resident astronomist, but I feel like there's more of a low light effect at dusk than dawn during the summer at least.

If I don’t leave my house by 10am, I am not likey to leave, so I am a morning guy.  But, with mostly being a weekday guy, I have to either leave before rushhour, 4-6am or after, 8-9am, to not sit in awful DMV traffic.  So unfortunately most of the time I am not ready to be up and gone before rushhour, so I fish more afternoons then I want to.  

 

I rarely evening fish, mosty due to my bank spots being in parks that close at dark or wanting to be off the water in my yak well before dark.

You want to be on the water when the bass are active.

Cold water period the afternoon is usually better because the bait tends to be more active.

Pre spawn the bass are moving up from deeper water and the early low light offers feeding opertunities for crawdads and baitfish.

Spawn the bass are guarding beds and overhead light in calm water allow for better sight fishing.

Post spawn to summer transition it's a toss up, I prefer mornings but adjust to the activity of the bass.

Summer nights, in the lakes I fish, the air is cooler, the boat traffic is nil and the bass are usually active feeding.

Fall the water is cooling and most activity with bait fish migrations tend to be in the afternoon but adjust to what is actually happening.

I prefer mornings, but having a newborn son in the house, evenings are more doable at the moment.

Both have their up sides especially in summer.  I do more morning because I like to get up early. Morning fishing is good and hot as hell when putting the boat way.  Late afternoon is warm at the start and perfect when the work needs to be done.  Afternoon is less crowded,and during a full moon the fish are by then ready to feed again by evening.

Both times have advantages especially in the summer heat.

I like both so it is hard to decide, if I had to choose one, I think I would go with morning.  I love a nice topwater bite in the morning.

I've been fishing at sunup in my area. Seems to better for me.

I’ve been fishing sunup to around 0900 because of the heat. It’s been over 100 everyday for the past week and I almost overheated a few weeks ago fishing all day. I would love to fish in the evening, I just have stuff to do and it’s still over 90 degrees.

I like evenings better. Like NittyGritty Boy I am not a morning person. I have fished mornings But I seemed to have better luck in the evenings. I just try to make the best of it when ever I can go.

Mornings, from just before sunrise to a little after. And I'm not even much of a morning person. There's something great about knowing most everyone else is still asleep, and there's a quiet and still feeling on the water that just isn't the same in the evening. It seems to amplify the sounds of nature and water. Evenings are great too - an entirely different flavor - but I prefer mornings. I'll take that all day

I have no preference. I go when I can, and usually figure out how to catch them with the conditions I am facing. The only time I prefer to NOT go is in the afternoon on holiday weekends in the summer if the weather is nice, or when the wind is blowing so bad it's uncomfortable at best, and perhaps even a touch unsafe in my little aluminum boat. But I am talking 30+ MPH winds out of the North or South here, as our lakes run North and South. I have a much easier time dealing with strong West or East winds.

For post spawn / early summer with water Temps in the low 70's, mid morning is more active. That said, dust into early dark, is when the larger ones are more active

I vote morning. It's not "better" just easier with my schedule. I really like night fishing, but I don't get to do that as much these days.

 

I like to be on the water by 4:30 am. Usually done by noon.

I prefer evening as I'm not a big fan of getting up a 3:30 A.M. although I do it.  I don't have an opinion on which is better as they both have prime activity periods. When the early morning bite dies, I have a hard time transitioning to it. With the night bite, although it dies shortly after sundown, the moving baits will still get one or two until activity picks up again.

Tom, if you & I fished the same waters . . . 

I suspect we'd see a lot of each other.
