Sifuedition Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 Well, I noticed my bank account had accumulated a little more than usual. I have not been fishing as much recently for a couple of reasons. One, my luck has been a little lacking lately. Two, the weekend weather has not cooperated much. Three, I've had a few other priorities. Despite all of that, I took the dive and bought a Shimano Chronarch MGL and a Favorite Big Sexy 7' Heavy rod. I'm geeking out and can't wait for them to deliver so I can give them a try. The rod is unfortunately on back order and likely won't deliver for 10-14 days, possibly more. Quote
thinkingredneck Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 I can say I have been disappointed in some rods, but never regretted them. 1 Quote

I'm just concerned about spending that much on a combo when my fishing time has been going down. Went out today. Had a decent day. Hooked into a 3ish lber on about the fifth cast, but he spit my lipless crankbait about half way in. Hooked into an easy 5 a little bit later. Could see him working the shallows as his back kept breaking the surface. Took about 5 casts at him and he finally nailed the spinner. Fought him all the way across the pond, but the bank was too steep and he still had quite a bit of fight in him. Walked him about 5-7 steps down the bank. Lifted his head out of the water and got on one knee. If I said he shook his head, I'd be exaggerating. He just gently nodded his head "no" and swam away. Still kicking myself. Caught a 3 and a 2 later, but somehow, that still doesn't add up to the same thing as a 5. Quote
puddlepuncher Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 I don't know much about the rod, but you won't regret the reel. Quote
Super User burrows Posted July 2, 2018 Super User Posted July 2, 2018 You made a solid purchase. ?? Quote
onenutinthewater Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 BIG MISTAKE! You are going to wish you had never purchased that reel- HUGE waste of $. No sense in having it just sitting around. I can dispose of it properly just drop it in the mail to me at you earliest convenience.. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted July 2, 2018 Super User Posted July 2, 2018 Forget about the favorite and put that mgl on a zodias. 3 Quote
OnthePotomac Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 You are going to love your MGL and you can fish anything with it. Really smooth. Keep a heavy grease on those micro gears like Shimano ACT 2, which is their drag grease. Mine is on a 7'MH Carbonlite spooled with InvizX 15lb flouro with a D Bomb tied on with a Gammie 4/0 EWG. This rig is a bass vacuum. Quote
Preytorien Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Never used the rod, but I can promise you won't regret the Chronarch MGL - hands down the best reel I've ever owned. I had some Boca's laying around from another Curado that used them then got sold. Put them in the Chronarch, fished, went home and re-inserted the stock Shimano bearings....they're that good. Smooth, strong, and quiet is how I'd classify the MGL. Worth every penny. I recently watched a casting tutorial from bassresource, showing how to set brakes for better casting and such. Now my distances are even further and I almost can't backlash this MGL now. Insane. On 7/2/2018 at 7:11 AM, rippin-lips said: Forget about the favorite and put that mgl on a zodias. Agree, I have mine on a 6'10" MH/Fast and it's a killer rig Quote
Beetlebz Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 I've never fished the big sexy but I have a bunch of favorite defenders I use and absolutely love them. The reel is a no brainer, but the rod you will love if you give it a chance. Quote
