Fluorocarbon

Finally bought a spool of Fluorocarbon to try on my senko rod. I've heard so many positive and negative things about it I  figured  give it a try and be my own judge.Bought Berkley vanish 14# gonna be fishing a fairly weeded area not mats and stained water ,seems very sensitive and will cast a mile.

Vanish is a mixed bag with two faces. Some have no problems with it, but others like me won’t trust it to catch a 3” dink. I’m not saying this to scare you but at least to be mindful of it. If it breaks on on you but not on account of you, you won’t feel so bad, lol. I suppose losing a senko is easier to swallow than say a lucky craft pointer or a $50 swimbait. 

 

The running joke is that it’s called vanish because that’s exactly what the fish or your lure will do after the line breaks. Ironically, Berkeley make trilene big game, xl and xt lines and they work very well. Go figure. 

 

Keep us posted on your experiences. I noted an increase in catches fc line, with seaguar invisx and this Cajun red fc but that was in 6# test. 

 

It it good that you bought it to find out for yourself. I can respect that because I’m like that too.

They call it Vanish because that's what your baits and fish will do.

Give InvizX a try if you are using spinning tackle. AbrazX for baitcasting.

Flouro is one of those products, where “ime” the more expensive the better it is.

If someone likes just a little bit the lower and/or middle line products ,they would love the top shelf stuff.

I tried several fluorocarbons before switching back to mono..and now to braid. Vanish was the best casting one I used but knot strength was questionable. I'd retie often if I were you, as I had to do with any fluorocarbon I tried. A Eugene Bend knot worked the best for me for fluorocarbon as i remember.

I'm using exclusively for my senko rod  rest of my rods are braid,my buddy told me to retie every few fish using fluorocarbon.

I figured I would try it ,I was watching Glenn video on senkos and he said they sink better with fluorocarbon so thats why I'm giving it a try,normally on my senko i use 12# big game

If switching from BG, I would practice both babying knots, and your expletives for when you break off fish...

I have no problems with flurocarbon line and find it superior to mono for my needs. I just can't deal with the stretch in mono and the fact that it floats doesn't help at all. All i will say is not all fluorocarbon is not created equal. I wont mention the brand i use because i am not paid to sell products.

If you tie your knot correctly there is no need to retie any more often than with any other type of line. 

 

Assuming of course a quality line is used

The lakes I fish are very clear and I definitely get more bites with floro. So I pretty much use it 100% of the time. 

I have two spare spools for my bait casters and one for my spinning reels with braid when the need arises. 

I tried Vanish, Cabela's, Bass pro but prefer Sunline or Segar.

Seaguar red label ~$10 from Walmart. Use it for baitcasters 12-20lb with zero issues. Can’t soeak for spinning reels though.

I tried Vanish in the past and it did not work for me.  It seemed like a good line to start with but after a few outings it just became brittle and hard to manage.  I have tried a few others (Gamma, P-Line, Sunline Shooter/Sniper, Trilene FC, Abrazx, Red Label and even Tatsu) and Invizx has been the best bang for the buck so far.

I used Vanish once in the past and had multiple break offs. I haven't used it since. I now use only tatsu, sniper, invizx, and p-line tactical.

You probably won’t like floro unless your gonna pay a little extra for the good stuff. I like p line tactical for my floro needs.

Im an avid fc user, and have tried a lot of different brands. With vanish, i found i really had to step up the packaged pound rating. Check diameter on the lines you are happy with, and try to match that with whatever fc you want to use.

I used it today on my senko reel  caught 6 had no issues with it at all,noticed immediately that senko had a better fall action with the FC vs mono ,cast smoothly,very sensitive,a little stretchy but no issues at all.I'll continue to use it on my senko reel until I have any issues.

I use fluorocarbon for leaders, not as a main line. I love the stuff.

 

Since I use it as a leader, my set-up comprises two knots: one at the hook, the other at the junction knot. Again, no issues even with two knots. Knot tying skills likely make a difference here. I do believe mono is much more forgiving regarding sloppier knots. Mono cinches down deeper owing to its elasticity.

 

Well, anyway . . .

 

I was going to ask you if casting "far" is a big deal fishing with a Senko for you?  Where I think fluorocarbon lines would likely be less bothersome to more people would be in situations where one is either fishing deep or making casts that are sort of casual. No bombs. I think this depends on how we are fishing, where, and more.

 

So, one other way to string it up, if a full spool of it gets the best of you, would be to just tie it on as an extra long leader. If you are only making short casts, say 60 feet, 100 feet (33 yds. on your spool) of leader spooled on your reel to braid would keep the junction knot well reeled on and under no tensile pressure. This works great on spinning reels, not certain how it'd work on a casting reel.

 

It's a third option between the two more common ways of using fluoro.
