Joshua van Wyk Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 I am divided between the Curado K and Okuma Helios. I'll be using these reels as an all around reel. It'll be paired with a 7' medium rod. What are your experiences with these reels? I'd love to hear some of your guys experiences with them. Quote

So would I. I have the Helios LP, but haven't had a chance to use it much yet. My previous Okuma is an Helios Air. Love it. Was amazed from my first cast with it at the distance I got. The LP is a nice looking reel as is the TCS. I normally fish from shore so distance is important to me. The LP is no slouch. I read good things about the K, but my newest Shimanos are the E series. It is impossible to try all the new reels if you never sell an older one. Quote

TylerT123 Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 Can vouch for the K, great reel. Very smooth and easy to adjust. The spool is very deep though, I don’t fill it up all the way. What do you want to cast with it exactly? Quote

Super User FishTank Posted July 1, 2018 Super User Posted July 1, 2018 I have couple of the old Curados and love them. They take a beating and keep going. Not sure about the Okuma though. I have fished the Helios Air and it was great. But after a few times of using it, it started to make a clicking noise and was not smooth. I have heard that this was case with a few of the new Okuma reels. I did take this one apart and there was no grease on the main gear. A little bit of grease and a few drops of oil and it was super smooth and fantastic to fish. My mind says Curado even though the Helios Air was quite awesome. Quote

Backroad Angler Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 No experience with the helios but I did have the Curado K for about a week or two and sent it back. Honestly It's the smoothest casting reel I've ever had and real pretty, but I started having problems with the side plate not wanting to close, fixed that and then the next day the spool wouldn't spin for some odd reason, fixed that. It was just giving me too many problems for how short I had it and I was'nt going to play around with it anymore. Quote

I've fished with his helios a bit Theyre great.however I've had such good results from shimanos for the last 15 years it's hard to deviate when it comes to spending my hard earned cash. Yumeya Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 I have had a K for about two weeks now and its been excellent, I use mine for crankbaits and it casts medium sized cranks very well, its very smooth. I added ZPI spool bearings and two bearings to each knob, it cast just fine without the ZPI's though. Its no Metanium but it casts good 1 Quote

I have not used an Okuma TCS, but I have held them and I definitely feel like the Curado K feels much more solid in the hands. Quote

I do like the carbon fiber handle on the okuma, but I feel the curado k is sturdier than the okuma. I also don't like having to take the side plate off to adjust the brakes on the okuma. Quote
BassThumb Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 I have to admit, I'm super thrilled with the Curado K. These are the best Shimano bait casters I've used, even better than the Chronarch E-Series, which were great. You may have seen my posts in the Flea Market over the last couple months. I've sold about 8 reels recently and replaced them all with Curado K, plus added a few more to new combos. Even the workhorse E-Series Curados and Chronarchs got swapped. One of the plusses for the Curado K is that they come with excellent spool bearings. Now I have a bag full of unshielded ceramic bearings that I bought for $25-30 a pair. I feel the Curado K bearings are just as good. I've done side-to-side comparisons. I would recommend flushing them real good in lighter fluid or acetone and then re-oiling them lightly. Then they act like $30/pair aftermarket bearings. I've always felt the need to replace spool bearings, but not with these reels. Quote

The 200I is great but I couldn’t see myself buying so many reels with that much line capacity. Quote
