What should I use to peg sinkers with?

Is there anything stopping me from just using a toothpick? 

 

I've heard that it allegedly causes wear on the line and eventually breakoffs, but most people I've heard that from are also trying to sell some sort of innovative gadget to use instead.

I prefer bobber stops, just because they are cheap and I know they work.

There is also the parasite weights which will  keep the baits from sliding down the hook  . They are pretty nifty .

No, you can use what you want but Toothpicks will deform the line. There really is no reason to use them anymore. 

Bobber stops, parasite clips rubber insert's etc do not.

I add a pack or 2 of 6th sense sinker stops to every TW order. They are $1.99/9 and work with 1/16th oz- 1.5 oz  of the various brand of tungsten sinkers I use (SK, VMC, Swagger, Picasso). After a while I find I have accumulated a life time supply of these..................I make a lot of TW orders.

I use bobber stops as well, still use toothpick time to time, I even tie a small mono knot on top of my weight. Works just fine. Whatever stops your weight from sliding

If ya shoving the toothpick far enough in to deform your line ya may wanna back off a tad.

 

Guys who use rubber peg-its leave it loose enough to still slide the weight, why would you not with a toothpick?

 

Leave the toothpick slightly looser that a peg-it because the wood will swell as it gets water logged.

I use bobber stops, peg-its, and tooth picks, they all work. Bobber stops are my preferred method, but it make take a couple if you're using heavier weights for punching.
