I liked the new duckett silverado I bet that’s a dam good rod unfortunately duckett hasn’t been getting much attention. I believe they need to make some changes in their marketing. I’m not a fan of their cranking rods but other then that I really dig their rods very strong and sensitive.

I held this rod at the show and yes, it’s fantastic for the price ($99 I believe). I was VERY impressed by the Black ice rod. It feels every bit like a high end rod. I think that one is around $380 or so.

The new Tatula rods & Tatula 100 reel looks pretty cool. I think Daiwa won in the rod & reel department this yea (for freshwater).

I agree with you that Daiwa had the strongest showing in the reel department.

I'm already thinking I'll pick up one of the new Daiwa 80 series reels, most likely the CG. Seems like these reels will cannibalize the other Daiwa  offerings at the same price point though.

There is a guy in YT that has the "C" reels and reviewing them. They don't look that impressive. Keep in mind they are DOYO reels (Abu Garcia, Lews, Pflueger) and I seen in one of the videos that they are lower prioritized by Doyo than the other three.

I ended up finding a deal on one and it should be arriving today. Not expecting it to perform like my Japanese Made reels, but on the other hand I'd hope Daiwa wouldn't put their name on a complete piece of junk either. Time will tell!

If this was true wouldn’t they have won best of show. Or at least one award in one category of the many products that they produce?

I enjoy my Lews and Revos quite a bit. I find it a bit comical that a Japanese company outsourced reels to South Korea who outsourced to China.

Not necessarily. The Curado DC was a big deal. It should have won best reel however nothing else Shimano showcased was inspiring. Daiwa on the other hand showcased a lot of products that are popular and inspiring. A $160 Tatula on a Steez frame, lower price point reels, upgraded version of the already fantastic Tatula rod lineup, new braided line, more soft plastics. The only other product I've even heard about from Shimano was the SLX but c'mon that's only a rebadged Citica E not that interesting.

It's determined by votes from show goers.

I’m aware, but I have to add field and stream also rated the curado dc as there number one pick for icast 2018, the new diawa tatula 100 was honorably mentioned as well. I believe there 4th pick of best products at icast 2018.

Anyway I know both companies are great manufacturers now the question bigger question is should I go for the new tatula 100 and opt out for the slx? hmmm decision decision, life can be so stressful with the bait monkey on your back?

A Zman rep told me that they are coming out with something new that he thinks I'll be all over but he said he couldn't tell me what it is.  So I will have to wait and see.

Could it be a small crawfish bait?

YUM's new smaller size of Pulse swimbait and their Tip Toad are both winners. The Toad caught fish for me during our Thursday night tournament and had very nice action and didn't roll like some toads want to do. The Pulse was my most productive bait Friday and not only has a nice swim on the retrieve, but wobbles so hard on the fall that my line actually looked like was pulsing, caught several on the drop because of it. Someone looking for a cheap Keitech alternative might want to take a look at them. Tons of great color options too.
