Best fishing times + weather ?

So i am on cape cod right now i fished in the morning and caught 5 large mouths. It is 3 in the afternoon but it is cloudy and rainy and windy i know that the GENERAL rule of fishing is .... Early in the morning .... and late late in the afternoon. With weather like this where its cloudy and the sun isn't beating down on the water does this mean the fish stay active everywhere in the water? im guessing late morning / mid afternoon sun keeps them DEEP or in the weeds

 

Just wanted to know if days where it's cloudy and rainy that i could basically fish almost the whole day since it never gets too sunny or hot out

Overcast with a mixture of light rain is probably my favorite, other than cool, still fall day.

 

And don't be afraid of wind, I've caught my best fish in windy conditions, bass don't care. I actually caught bass yesterday @3pm in afternoon 100* out and they were in middle of pond schooling. So to me there's no wrong time to fish

haha only issue is casting into the wind it's .... annoying to put it lightly and i mean i know in general fish eat all day that's all they do is eat but i definitely feel like early morning i catch the most fish and also late afternoon although late afternoon i catch less than in the morning

Sure in general during summer fish are most active in the early morning and late evening. But they are opportunist like everything else.

As far fishing all day goes, always fish the whole day (if you can). Some of the biggest fish I have caught were in the middle of the day, with high heat, humidity and bright sun. When everyone says you have to slow it down or don't bother, you can still get them to hit reaction baits.

Generally speaking overcast and wind is good, but don't keep from going out just because "the experts" say it's not worth it.

Well ya i mean i shore fish and have a kayak just today was not kayak weather lol so shore fishing it was ! still caught 6 but it was SO hard to cast

I fish most of the day regardless of weather, I think best weather is overcast which a chance of rain.

 

  I'd say when I'm fishing rivers, morning or evening is the best(during the warm months).  When fishing tidal waters, I think the tide plays a much larger role than time of day.  Now, if you have good tidal movement at morning or evening than that is probably the best case scenario.  At the same time, if slack tide is first thing in the morning and then  tide starts falling/rising in the heat of the day, the fishing will usually still improve as the tide starts moving.

I fish from a kayak as well, so I know what you mean. Sometimes it just becomes impossible with the wind.

I should get up early in the morning, but I'm not a morning person. So I usually end up fishing mid day and later in the evening instead. Cooler days can definitely be more productive, and I find the morning activity can run later in the day, and in some cases you might find some chasing later in the afternoon.

I think bass are always active in the sense that you can always find something that triggers them to bite.  Overcast days tend to be better for the sheer number of fish that I catch, but if we're talking big fish, it really doesn't matter.  I catch big ones at all times of the day, at different depths, and during different conditions.

I agree on the overcast days.  I try to fish everyday on my lunch break and it's hit or miss but I can't complain.  I mostly fish small ponds and it was windy today but the largemouth were schooling in the middle.  Got several strikes on a frog where I would least expect it.  With the frogs I have found that windy days, rattles in the bodies seems to get their attention better.

I prefer overcast days, but that usually means windy conditions.
