A family friend came to visit this weekend and asked me to take him fishing. We asked my son to come along and he did. While we were fishing my friend suggested we have a competition to see who can catch the most fish.

My son is very competitive. Little did I know that was all it took to get him into fishing. We fished 2 days with my friend and 1 day together after he left. So far I am winning by 1 fish. I didn't have to use my excuse that I am the knot tie, snag and tangle person on all our trips. Luckily we are doing quantity over quality because he had the biggest catches.

Glad you found a way to get your son interested!  To get my 10 year old grandson interested in fishing I'd have to figure out how to get a fishing rod to look like an Xbox controller......

Nice going! Does he have a fear of touching the fish? I kind of get that vibe from the photos.

What about something like a challenge. Offer to buy him a new game if he catches x number of fish? Might be enough to at least entice him into trying out fishing.

He actually hates the fishy smell on his hands after touching the fish. I wear that smell like a badge of honor.

Congrats on getting your son to enjoy fishing.

My 24-year old son has ADD and has never had the patience for fishing. I have to borrow someone else’s kid. My tourney partner attended college with my son.

Good report, thank you for posting it. I also enjoy fishing with my loved ones and prefer it over fishing with anyone else.
