AJ Polley Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 So yesterday I was fishing in the river and caught a Sheepshead. I sent it to my buddy and he asked me if they have teeth like a human. I thought that was the stupidest thing I've ever heard of, but when I looked it up, I seen pictures of them with human like teeth. has anyone ever caught a Sheepshead with human like teeth in it, or know anything about it? I'm so confused and flabbergasted by this I need answers. Quote

I have caught a ton of them and have never seen human teeth. The saltwater version does have human like teeth. 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted June 27, 2018 Super User Posted June 27, 2018 There are at least 3 types of fish that are called sheepshead in North America. The California sheepshead, the freshwater sheepshead, which is also known as the freshwater drum, and the saltwater sheepshead from the south. The saltwater sheepshead (Archosargus probatocephalus) from the south is the one that looks like it has human teeth. They also taste good so most people keep them if they are of legal size. Quote
mrmacwvu1 Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 when I first moved to Florida I caught my first one they do have teeth that look like humans Quote
UPSmallie Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 I've been told you can lip them like bass, but not sure if I'd want to try. Their teeth are made for grinding up things like crayfish so not really sure but still a fun catch. Quote
Arcs&sparks Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 I think the question has been answered, but what I want to know is how in the world you got so muddy?? ? Quote
RHuff Posted July 10, 2018 Posted July 10, 2018 The saltwater ones in the south can crunch a crab shell in two just like humans can a sunflower seed Quote
