Super User Log Catcher Posted June 25, 2018 Super User Posted June 25, 2018 Went over to the local Cabelas store this morning. Left the bait monkey in the parking lot. Got out and spent less than $10. Talked to a worker in the fishing department. He said in early July Bass Pro would be bringing their stuff in to the store and the fishing department would be a lot bigger. More than likely the prices will suddenly be a lot higher. Thought I would pass this on for those that shop Cabelas as to what to expect. 2 Quote
CroakHunter Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 That's surprising. Usually cabelas is the highest place around for fishing gear. With bass pro not far behind. Sucks for the casual fisherman because they don't know any better. 1 Quote
Junger Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 Wonder if that means Cabela's will phase out their brand name fishing gear and lifetime warranty. Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted June 25, 2018 Author Super User Posted June 25, 2018 I don't know if Cabelas will phase out their stuff or not. A lot of times I can get a little better price with them than Bass Pro. The problem with our store is that it is a smaller store and can't carry a lot of merchandise or very many colors in a lot of what they do carry. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 26, 2018 Super User Posted June 26, 2018 Hey guys, changes are expected. BPS will probably phase out Cabela's products over a specific time period. The improvement I see is that the BPS guys know more about bass fishing than the Cabela's guys. Of course, the shoe is on the other foot now and then with a specific Cabela's staff member, but for the most part, the BPS staff is more knowledgeable and actually are bass fishermen. We may be able to make some great purchases as BPS has Cabela's sales to reduce the Cabela's stock to be replaced with BPS products. Got to go call the Bait Monkey to get him ready to rock and roll. MrFrost Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Cabela's branded inventory likely won't be on any fire sale for the foreseeable future. I work for Cabela's and although we will begin receiving BPS branded inventory, we're still stocking Cabela's brand as well. Rather than lose Cabela's brand presence on the sales floor, we will be expanding our fishing department to accommodate. It makes sense for them to keep the two company's separate as long as possible, as you still win the business of a larger customer base, as there will always be the customers who prefer one over the other and refuse to go to the other. Once the two become one, you face losing the faithful customer base. But it'll eventually happen. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted July 1, 2018 Super User Posted July 1, 2018 Good and bad news. I was at Cabela's today and still can't believe the prices they charge for a Roboworm now. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 1, 2018 Super User Posted July 1, 2018 I hope they keep them separate. I used to like bass pro shops branded gear but lately not so much. Cabela's is Ok as well but the stores seem to have a different feel. The Cabelas by me is nice, they have knowledgable staff and plenty of people in the fishing department to help (usually four or more). The last time I went to a Bass Pro shop they had two people working on a busy Saturday and one of them tried to sell me a vacation package and the other acted like he was scared of water (maybe is own shadow). Super User Further North Posted July 3, 2018 Super User Posted July 3, 2018 One place the Cabela's brand consistently outshines Bass Pro is in the store branded fly gear. The Cabela's brand fly rods and reels are typically pretty good...the Bass Pro brand less so. Quote

I was in Cabela’s a while back and asked a salesman where the jig trailers were located and he just looked dumbfounded and had no idea as to what I was asking him. Lol 1 Quote
