I am seeking to get the best glass rod that I'm going to dedicate for crankin'. I want a rod that is able to throw pretty much the everyday small to medium sized cranks. I am not looking for a deep water crankbait rod as I do not throw deep diving crankbaits most of the time. I am also open to crankbait rod suggestions made out of composite or graphite as well.

I am going to pair this rod with my Curado 200e5. As for my budget, I am open to rods from all price ranges and would love to hear about any suggestions that you might have.

If you specifically want a glass rod, I’d look into the Dobyns champion lineup. Best cranking lineup on the market in my opinion. Great characteristic parabolic bend of traditional glass rods without sacrificing weight and thickness of the rod. Honestly, held side by side there’s not much of a difference between their glass lineup and their graphite lineup.

For what it’s worth, I own the 705cb glass and it covers all of my cranking needs (squarebills, traps, anything less than 10’ deep). There are several other models as well if you want a different length or power.

St Croix legend glass or the Dobyn's. I've got a Dobyn's glass rod, it's not a cranking rod, but I really like it.

I would lean to the Dobyns as well.. Another great rod, Although it's a blend, is the Witch Doctor Surman 50 G.

Just a great squarebill and medium diving bait rod. Also a great Topwater and spinnerbait rod.

Irod Gabe's RipRap Special

Irod Fred's Crank Launcher Jr.

Both are Genesis 2 models.

I would recommend composite. Those glass rods can get heavy.

Go find yourself a Seeker React Pro RPS-706C.  It's the production rod on Seeker's popular BS706-Sglass blank that I use for a cranking rod.  It will handle the full spectrum of cranks from little SK series 1 up though series 6 cranks.

I might be ordering the St Croix Legend glass MH later tonight...or the Megabass Orochi XX flatside special.

Thanks guys for all of the replies! It's always a great to consult with you guys before making a final decision on purchasing any fishing gear. I always do my own research first, but there are limits to that. You guys always help me come up with choices that I would have never even imagined despite my own research.

So, it seems there are three of you guys recommending the Dobyn's. Definitely something to something I'll consider.

In my own research, I've also looked at the following below:

- Quantum Tour KVD: I felt that for $160-170 MSRP for a Chinese made rod is not worth it imo. Just looks a like an overpriced cheap rod. The eva grip looks super cheap and don't like the micro guides.

- St. Croix Legend Glass: I simply can't do the the orange blank. That is just plain ugly. I don't know what St. Croix was thinking. It reminds me of those god awful carrot stix.

- Falcon HD 7' Medium power Moderate action casting rod: Although graphite, I think because of the moderate action it will be forgiving enough and because it's graphite it will be lighter and more sensitive. Despite it being yet another Chinese made rod, I like that fact that it only costs $70. I also like that classic design with cork grips.

- G. Loomix GLX 783 CBR: Read a Tackle Tour review about this rod and while it looks amazing, I don't want to stomach paying $400 for a crankbait rod.

As for the iRod Gensis, I have not considered these rods, but for much like the same reason as the Quantum Tour KVD, despite the iRod's rave reviews, I don't want to spend $150 for a Chinese made rod.

I think the greatest find I found from asking which glass or best crankbait rod to get from this thread are the following below:

The Witch Doctor Surman 50: Wow, I would've never even thought of getting this rod. It's cool because this rod is not really talked about much at all. I've never even heard about the Witch Doctor brand. I think I will be the only guy on the water with this rod, so it has a cool factor to it like being the first kid on the block with some cool shoes or something like that that no other kids have or eventually will copy you. Besides that, I like that it is made in the USA. I also like that this rods seems to use a higher quality EVA with a little bit of cork inlay instead of that cheap foamy type of EVA. Although, I don't prefer EVA, I think the only exception that I would make for EVA now is on my crank rods. Furthermore, I like that they use regular sized guides and not mini guides. I also think that the rod is aesthetically pleasing. It's maroon color and design is just nice looking. Finally, I like how it is offered in MH and M power rods. I see a lot of crankbait rods with MH power with Moderate Fast actions these. I'm going to go with the Medium power. Anyways, this one is the clear winner!

Alpha Angler Rebound and Seeker Pro: These are also rods I would have never even considered, so thanks for suggesting them. I also like these rods as well especially because they are made in the USA. I just don't like the mini guides on them; although it should be a non factor for cranking - or rather anything for me, since I don't use leaders at all - I just don't prefer them.

Anyways, thanks again guys for making some awesome suggestions. If there are any more suggestions that you guys might have on the best crank rod, I am open to hearing about them.

That is kinda what I like about the rod, it looks traditional but not to orange like the those awful carrot stix LOL.

I like my crankbait rod to stick out vs all my other rods that look the same...

Talk to the owner of Witch Doctor before you order the Medium.. I have the MH and it will easily handle a 3/8 oz. bait.

It will fish any moving bait really well but in addition to a squarebill rod it's a great spinnerbait/buzzbait rod.

Pond King, be sure to give a review of the rod.  Don't believe I've ever heard of the Witch Doctor brand.  I don't like spending that much on a rod, but maybe I could be made to change my mind.  :D  Maybe a Voodoo II.  :teeth:

I'm also looking at the St-Croix LTB Big Cranker....

But not sure if I want the Big Cranker or the St-croix LT Glass.

I doubt it's the "greatest" glass rod, but I picked up a 7'2" Tatula glass cranking rod, the MH/R one and that rod is great. It's slightly heavier than all my graphite rods (which doesn't really bother me), but the sensitivity of the rod is actually quite surprising. Vibrations from say a bladed jig are slightly muted, but at the same time I can feel more minute things on this rod that I don't even feel on the graphite rod.

I also like buying American, but it's not because I have any complaints about the quality of this rod by any means, I just like supporting American businesses.

After looking more on the St Croix LT Glass rod, it looks more of a honey color vs orange.

I think and hope its just the cameras used that make it look orange :)

If not I will have a Halloween rod, LT glass with Curado K

I like buying American too but plenty of quality rods are made overseas.

Yes, I agree. There are plenty of quality rods made overseas. I think rods that are manufactured overseas are pretty good nowadays as a lot of those countries have improved their quality in manufacturing goods. I own plenty of fishing gear made overseas myself.

It's just that when it comes to buying fishing rods, I just prefer buying USA made and eventually a JDM Megabass rod. When it comes to reels, I don't think you can get anymore higher quality reels than from Daiwa and Shimano which are Japanese OEMs.

Thanks for the tip, rangerjockey! And thanks for letting me in on the Witch Doctor rods. I think they are very cool.

I will if/when I get it. I would reconsider from the Voodoo II and get their flagship rod because I saw on their site that they have a sale for the 6' 10" Medium for $215 when it's originally $329 (https://witchdoctortackle.com/shaman-casting-rods/). Upon further research I think they use Rainshadow blanks, and if that's the case, these rods should be good.

I have an RX7 Rainshadow.   One of my favorite rods.  I feel it is quite sensitive for the price.  Better than some of my rods that cost more.

Thanks for the heads up on the 6'10" medium.

Got the rod today, its pretty sweet and she has a nice thick rear end (the backbone is twice as thick as graphite) the build is excellent and the bend is incredible.

I'm not sure what the weight is of the Dobyns Fury 705CB but the St-Croix feels lighter but it is a little tip heavy, I put a Curado K on the rod and it feels pretty d**n good.

As for sensitivity, I haven't fished it yet but dragging the tip across my carpet feels the same as the Dobyns.
I'm going fishing tomorrow and will report back on how it feels, Hopefully I can find some boiling wipers  :big grin:

I bet this rod can launch a 1/2oz lipless crankbait.

A beautiful honey color.
