With the new Curado DC coming out I am seriously considering purchasing one but for the price I want to know if it will last. Although they have probably updated the chip. Has anyone used any other DC reels and did they hold up or did they wear out? Has there been any problems directly related to the DC part of the reel?

I have 2 in the Calcutta line. From my experience and from what I've gathered - they're very well designed reliable reels. The DC Calcuttas are a bit more difficult to lube (spool bearings) than non-DC reels. Don't know if a Curado DC is different. I use mine only occasionally - sort of a novelty in my reel locker. Awesome to throw all kinds of baits, great distance. If you want one, go for it. You'll be very impressed!

My TE250DC is 12 years old, I think. Still works the same today as it did back then. The Curado probably won't be as bulletproof as a Calcutta, but I bet it'll last a LONG time if it's properly cared for.

Little off topic, but how do I know which generation I have?  Picked up a used on earlier this year.

I believe there are only 2 generations with the latest one coming out last year. I bought mine about 3 years ago. Mine looks like a charcoal grey chronarch D.

Been using DC reels since they came out in 2004 in a the Round and then the LP in 2006. As far as durability not one issue with the DC unit or the reels themselves. Shimano has done nothing but continue to fine tune their DC reels and yes I would tell you they are reliable....

Calais DC here, at plus eight.  Works just fine.  It's caught a bunch a pike and a few bass this year...one yesterday on a Whopper Plopper.
