keagbassr Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 Since I don't own/use senkos turds or neds i figure everything i throw is unpopular.? Quote
redmexican5081 Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 Mister Twister 6" black phenom worms (old bags in banana scent if you can find them) Quote
blckshirt98 Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Yamamoto Kut Tails - don't see them mentioned anywhere but they're one of my go-to plastics. 1 Quote
buzzbaiter83 Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 I still fish a Silver Buddy, a firetail power worm Texas rigged, & Salty Crawlin Grub. All of which I rarely see thrown or talked about anymore. I catch more 2-4lb smallmouth on a Berkeley Gulp Minnow in the winter than all my other baits combined. +1 on the rattling rogue. I like the suspending version, orange/silver/black with the black gill stripes. 1 Quote
CrankFate Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Probably all of them. For example, everyone says green pumpkin, green pumpkin or watermelon. Whelp, when there are rocks in clear water covered in green hairy slime algae and you throw those popular colors, you can see the fish looking for the senko when they smell it or hear it, but they can’t find it. They’re eyes must be all greened out. From what I’ve read, their eyes don’t adjust for light and color linstantly like ours, it could take up to an hour to adjust. If you throw something else that isn’t popular like pink, they’ll see it. I wouldn’t believe it unless I’ve seen them looking around like blind morons unable to actually find the bait. With a very different color, you’ll see them attack it by sight sometimes when it catches their eyes, but if it’s almost the same color as everything else they see, it’s like it’s invisible and they won’t attack it. I seen a lot of weird fish behaviors an this one is one of the worst. It’s like they’re completely blind. 1 Quote

I have thrown them until my arm is about to fall off, and I can make them walk underwater, but have never even had a sniff on one. Also, I have had success with the ol Flying Lure. I used to slay them around docks on them but I lost my last one and can’t find anymore. Quote

The bait's magic seems to be that 'shimmy & roll' that it does on the pause. I like to let it sit motionless for a good spell about half way through the cast. Strikes routinely occur soon after I resume the retrieve. I throw it on spinning gear with light braid & a long mono leader. Changing the hooks is a must. Some places where I fishing it over weeds I have to use a wire leader in front of it because pike love the thing. Especially early & late season. That's it. A-Jay Quote

I absolutely loved the concept of the Sub-Walk but just haven’t had any luck with it. I may have to dig them back out from the depths of my tackle box and mix them back in my rotation again this fall. On a different note I sent a buddy of mine a link to a long conversation about smallmouth you and @12poundbass had that was loaded with great insight. I’ve been fishing for a while but you have forgotten more about bass fishing than I’ll ever I know! 1 1 Quote

This lure usually cures that plus the fish don't see it much around here. I use a similar lure for schooling fish. It was given to me years ago by a retiring tournament angler. I believe it's an old L&S Mirrolure. It works better than anything else I have ever used. Quote

Super User Teal Posted July 15, 2020 Super User Posted July 15, 2020 I think they still have a decent cult following, but one of my secret baits that lack popularity these days is a 3" tube in either black/blue or green pumpkin. I like to skip them under trees and docks. Not many baits skip like a tube, I get lucky and am able to zip that thing in some tough spots...some times when they dont want the jig or a rage bug, the tube is the ticket. 1 Quote
