So myself and friend who doesn't fish took my new boat out onto a lake I had never been on before. I was really just trying to get some break-in time out of the way, but we found a small cove and decided to fish. Since my friend hadn't ever really fished beside a worm and bobber I rigged up a senko and pointed and said just cast over there, I then casted for him and handed him the rod and started putting something together for me to fish. Sure enough he said he thought he had one, I turned and thought he was just hung up on some submerged tree. Nope... he was hooked up, turned out to be a decent spotted bass, maybe 1.5-2lb. So, do I get some credit for the first fish on my boat? Even cooler was, it was literally the first cast. Anyone else have something like this happen. Btw my fish that day was caught while picking out a nice backlash.. just an odd day.

Same type of thing happened to me, had permission to fish a pond that hadn't been fished in YEARS.

Got there right at crack of day, mid- October, got the boat backed in, picked up a random rod with a squarebill tied on and slung a hail Mary straight out in the middle of the pond. Started a nice slow crank with a 2-3 reel pause and WHAM! Got slammed, fought her in the boat, 7lb LMB. Perfect way to start the day off

Never have had that happen again. Right place, right time, right bass.

When I got my Pond Prowler a few years back, it had a pretty good maiden voyage.  I found a school immediately and caught 9 keepers in the first 45 minutes.  As that bite slowed, I moved 20 yards and made a cast to the corner of an isolated dock.  Got a tap, set the hook but instead of a keeper, it was a 8lb, 0 oz largemouth.

Heck of a first hour on a new boat!!

My current boats 1st outing was a shakedown and engine breaking trip to Castaic 13 years ago with my son and wife enjoying a cruise around the lake. We stopped for lunch in a cove and my son got out his spinning rod slip shot rigged and starting catching bass as the wife and I watched while eating lunch. My wife was shocked that I didn't start fishing. I was having too much fun watching and playing around with the new electronics, so my son christened the new boat.

Last Saturday was the first day of the season and I got the last part for the boat delivered on the Friday, so was ready to fish the first day, just. The boat fished as well, or better than I could have hoped and the first proper fish caught was one of my favorites, a zander. Very happy chap. Took the dogs out with me on Sunday, and they gave it the seal of approval too. They especially like their own platform for watching the action from.
