Sufficient Setup?

Hey guys.  I've been lurking around on here for a while, but just got serious into bass fishing when i bought a kayak late last fall.  I usually spend all of my time and money into bowhunting, but now I'm trying to build some decent setups for bass fishing, primarily from kayak and bank with the occasional boat trip.

 

My particular question is about the Daiwa Tatula CT in 7:3:1 that I just ordered.  I have a cheap Berkley Lightning Rod MH in 7' that was laying around the garage with a junk reel on it.  Is this sufficient to throw whopper ploppers, poppers, and cranks <10' on 30LB power pro?  I mostly fish private lakeS or at the county reservoirs here in GA.

Sold be Good for jigs, plastics and maybe spinnerbait1s.  Maybe frogs.  I would put braid on it,  (50-65#) but that is just a personal opinion.  Lightning rods are better than their price point, IMHO.

I like 30lb braid as a good middle ground for line.  Plenty strong, so you don't have to worry much about breaking off.  But also fairly small diameter so its manageable and casts well.

Thanks.  Will it run a whopper plopper good on braid or do I need another setup for topwater?

You can run 30 on a baitcaster just fine, and for most anything

you want to throw. I always use a leader, but that's me, and 

others will hail mono for topwater....

I think your OK for the smaller ploppers (110 & 90). Your rod might be straining with the 130 and it will be in pain with the 190. Check the lure weight rating on the rod. You can push the top end a bit but not a lot.
