That's what you call quick thinking ? 2 1 Quote
Super User Scott F Posted June 19, 2018 Super User Posted June 19, 2018 Do you think you invented that line of reasoning? I've been married almost 40 years. I'm way ahead of you. 4 Quote
Dirtyeggroll Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 HA! I tried to say that once. My wife ended up counting her pairs of shoes. 43. She said I have way more lures than that. 2 2 Quote

Rick Howard Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 I can tell you most do not appreciate the gift of tackle. I just got a boat for my wife. Best trade I ever made 1 4 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted June 19, 2018 Super User Posted June 19, 2018 I am a lucky guy, my wife's take on tackle is "Do I have enough watermelon candy and red shad trick worms?" I've been known to "borrow" them without permission, but that's a different conversation. 1 Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted June 19, 2018 Super User Posted June 19, 2018 I'm very fortunate...we just had our 45 anniversary and as far life has gone it has had it's ups and downs. Thought I should try and sell the boat a couple times due to lifes little bumps and ohhhhhhhhh....she got kinda ugly. You will "NOT" sell the boat .... I don't give a $#@!. Things always seem to work out...Praise God She's my favorite and best keeper. 5 Quote

But do you really want her throwing in your face about the $150.00 Garcia Revo SX or the $170.00 Daiwa Tatula. Not me. My wife fully understands my passion for chasing Smallies. But we keep our distance on rods, lured, reels etc. for the most part. There have been times if asked for present suggestions and I've given a few ideas and she knows about TW. I guess I'm saying I don't bring up shoes, purses or clothes. You (she) don't bring up rods, reel, lures, boat 21 minutes ago, Oregon Native said: I'm very fortunate...we just had our 45 anniversary and as far life has gone it has had it's ups and downs. Eric J Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 I'm married 37 years to my High School sweetheart. She'll joke about my spending on my passions, years of endurance racing had me spending on bikes, running and swimming gear and race entry fees. Now back to fishing after an absence for my racing "career" the spending has shifted back to gear. My wife spends on her hobbies and clothes. Years ago we decided that we will not ever argue money as long as it doesn't impact our quality of life. We share all bank accounts. Through our 37 years of marriage we have gone back and forth as top earner. I'm not out drinking, getting stupid and staying out late for no decent reason. She loves that investing in my passion makes me happy just as when the girls are all over to play "Mahjong" and talk crap about the hubbies I just smile and say, "Honey, I'm goin' fishin'." 1 Quote

Ya gotta pick your battles ? 1 1 Quote
CaptPete Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 Mine comes fishing from time to time. She used to stick to a couple small cranks and a spinnerbait... but she sees when the jig bite or <insert other method here> is on... She's seen my jig boxes before and always gives me: "How many do you need??"... Well tides turned last Sunday. I wasn't catching much of anything, she was getting grouchy and started digging. She found something she thought was pretty: PBJ arkie jig with a junebug rage craw on it... Well... that was the ticket that day. She caught 3 nice largies in 3 casts, and kept it going most of that afternoon... until she lost the jig... Well... she goes digging... next thing I know "Why don't you have <insert color and size jig here>.. I explained you can't buy them all. She was flabbergasted... "You don't have them all??".... Not sure wether to be nervous or excited... but I tied her three new PBJ jigs yesterday, she's happy for now.. lol 1 1 Quote
MrFrost Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 I consider myself VERY lucky. My wife and I are polar opposites as far as hobbies go. She's not a "hobby" person, but completely supports me and all 157 hobbies that I have. Fishing is my newest, but so far most rewarding, because my stepson has always wanted to fish, and now it's become our thing. He and I have always had a great relationship, but now that we've begun fishing together, we've found ourselves that much closer. So now when I say we're running to Cabela's to try out a new lure, she doesn't even ask any questions. Quote

I mean, I don't have or even want an expensive bassboat. I'll probably drop $1000 on a good replacement kayak one of these days. Other than that, i'm set for rods and reels for a while. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 19, 2018 Super User Posted June 19, 2018 Fishing stuff? Ha! I also play drums (Michelle happens to be the singer). Look up what vintage Black Beauty snare drum runs. Sometimes things follow you home. She doesn't bat an eye on a $50 swimbait. 1 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted June 19, 2018 Super User Posted June 19, 2018 My wife noticed that every time we go to Walmart or any place they sell tackle I am always buying a lure or something fishing related. She asked me, "Are you ever going to stop buying fishing stuff?" I said, "Yes, when you bury me." 1 1 Quote
thinkingredneck Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 Old military policy at our house: don't ask, don't tell. She buys plants and other stuff. We have total freedom with our discretionary "allowances." 1 Quote
jbmaine Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 My wife doesn't buy shoes much but when we are out buying fishing stuff she always says " are you sure that's enough, shouldn't you grab a few more, I know we'll use them". I love her. 1 Quote
Tizi Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 We both get an allowance from our main account every 2 weeks. We can spend the money on whatever we want. This works really well for us. She never complains about my spending, because it is my money! 2 Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted June 19, 2018 Super User Posted June 19, 2018 So basically I am screwed;) My wife is super thrifty and only buys shoes as she needs them, and has used the same purse forever, and since it is an eddie baur purse, already had it replaced for free once:( I am really hoping that our thrifty ways put us in a lake house in retirement and then it will be all worth it:) 1 Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 I use the old buy the lures etc. online and have them shipped to my work and slowly integrate them home and into my tackle boxes so as not to raise suspicion :). I usually scrape whatever leftover change we have from going out to eat, shopping, trips etc., wherever I have the opportunity to squirrel away a few extra dollars here and there until i have enough to place a tackle order. If she saw TW or Academy or Dick's Sporting goods boxes showing up on our doorstep each week she'd have a problem. As it is now she doesn't really know what I have for tackle and I like to keep it that way so if she sees something new she can't be real sure when exactly i got it...lol. I've tried the purse and shoe and jewelry argument too and she'll be like at least i wear/use mine, you have lures in your tackle box you've never used...yada, yada, yada! I've been attacked on more than one occasion by an MK, Coach or (insert name brand here) purse when I look in our closet or tripped over yet another pair of expensive Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Under Armor, Sketchers etc. shoes but all of these are necessary while another addition to my tackle box is a waste of money . You can't argue with a woman...at least and win...lol. Quote

Riazuli Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 I feel lucky - my wife has never gotten too upset over tackle... And I have enough tackle to last me a decade (apart from hard baits that I might consistently lose). She knows I love fishing and that it helps refresh me for work and school, and it keeps me more relaxed around her too. I also compared my tackle to her makeup and shoes, etc., and she gets it. I also mentioned, in regard to stocking up so much since this last winter that I was taking advantage of sales and coupons, which is true. For the stuff I bought, I can't see prices going lower than what I got most of my stuff for, so I bought a lot of stuff in bulk (apart from rods/reels/fish finder - just referring to lures and terminal tackle). Super User Columbia Craw Posted June 20, 2018 Super User Posted June 20, 2018 Before I retired I had a rule: No overtime, no stuff. Buying gear was never questioned. Now when I pick up the odd this and thats, my wife (45 years) asked me why do you buy that ? My response, " so I don't have to burden you with figuring out what to by me." I am a very considerate husband. 1 Quote
