FCPhil Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 I’m looking at purchasing some “Mustad KVD Elite 1X Strong 2X Short Shank Treble Red” They are a little cheaper than the black nickel version named “Mustad KVD 1x Strong 2x Short Triple Grip Treble Hook” They appear identical aside from the word elite in the name. A review says that the red hooks are not as sharp as the black nickel version and that red hooks generally are not as sharp. Anyone know if this is true? Quote
junyer357 Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 I use them often on front hooks for squarebills and jerkbaits. I have not noticed a diffrence in sharpness. Quote
pauldconyers Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 But these are the same hook, other than color? Does the exclusion of the work "elite" mean there is some sort of difference or not? Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted November 3, 2019 Super User Posted November 3, 2019 Same Hook - just red. Catches a ton of fish for me. Some of them are pretty decent too. A-Jay https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Mustad_KVD_Elite_1X_Strong_2X_Short_Shank_Treble_Red/descpage-MKVR.html 1 Quote

Some have said on here that the hook does not seem as sharp out of the package for the red ones. Have you noticed that? If so do you have a hook sharpener you like that would work on both trebles and single hooks? Quote

Both sharp and I use them right out of the package. When there is a need for touch up - and I do it often, I use this one https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Cuda_425_Marine_Knife__Hook_Sharpener_/descpage-CKS.html I have a model that's at least 10 years old now and it's got a blue handle; but I think it's basically the same deal. A-Jay btw - rather than hoping I see your thread, just pm me or add one of these deals to your post @pauldconyers but with @A-Jay Quote

A-Jay Terrific, thanks again for your input! I had one final question of you about a different subject if you'd be so kind. In the past I have read how much of a proponent you are of using quality PFD. I wondered if you would check out this question I posted a few days ago and give me any option or advice you might have? https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/221111-need-pfd-pointers-or-advice/ Quote
The Bassman Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Elites are much sharper out of the box, hence the slightly higher price. Both colors are available in both versions. Quote
