How exactly do you do this. I know the baits/techs but do you just randomly cast along the banks grass line? How do you prevent your bait sliding down/off your hook even if your hook has a bait keeper?

Look for areas that may be different from the normal, in really any way. That would be my first guess. As far as the bait sliding down your hook you may want to try another brand of hook completely. There is not a whole lot that can be done about that imo.

What hook/bait combo are you using. I have no problem with owner 4x jungle hooks

You need a hook with a keeper as @Catt posted, or a screw lock type.

I use a Trokar TK 130 but there are others.

As far a fishing grass, down here I flip into mat's or the heaviest cover I could find.

It was 94 deg today when it's that hot they're buried up.

River2Sea "Ish Monroe" New Jack Flippin Hooks

has a good keeper but maybe I’m threading it wrong do I go past the eye of the hook where the sinker hits the plastic? The thing about grass is how do you know if it’s productive.  I went down a very popular bank it was 100 out and didn’t have one bite throwing to the edge of the grass

If you are using soft plastic baits slide them past the eye of the hook and use heavy mono to push into the plastic, thru the eye, and out thru the other side of the plastic. Trim flush. Another tip I saw from Glenn.

I have 25lb mono is that thick enough? The mono will hold it and not bend in the rest of the  space of the eye?

We should all be pushing the head of the plastic above the knot.

When I trim the tag end off I leave a little sticking up, just enough to hang plastic!

I can't imagine that in Iowa you would need anymore then 17lb mono or 40lb braid. Try downsizing your line and see if that helps. Also, Trokar Straight shank Flipping Hooks with plastic hook keepers will hold the plastic exceptionally well.

Iowa is where the hogs are! I thought the hook above was good but I’ll def try out the reccomend ones. As far as flipping grass is there a better time to choose to flip grass over wood. I’m just looking for any tips about this since I’m new to it.

From my experience in the summer, bass usually relate to grass first, and then to wood if there isn't grass around.  I always catch more flipping grass than flipping wood in the heat of the summer.  If you can find some wood mixed in with the grass, that's a spot to pay extra attention to.  I'm sure someone here  will have a totally different experience, but this is just from my own observations.

I don't fish the grass...I fish what's under it!

Inside grasslines

Outside grasslines

Points in the grasslines

Any depth changes; 10-15', 15-20', over a short distance.

Don't forget your jig rod!

Goto YouTube & watch Greg Hackney, he throws nothing but a heavy jig. I fish the same way but with a Texas Rig & Jig-n-Craw.

Pretty much covers this thread for me! ?

I was punching through some grass the other day. Really fun technique to use. I prefer to use a straight shank hook with a screw lock. I pair that with my favorite creature bait and a pegged weight and send it. I’m good for about 3 fish on average before the bait starts sliding down. I like to cast to any openings in the grass bed, and edges, but I’ve had fish crush it in the thick of it as well.

I rarely watch videos but this one is Excellent!!

For you younger guys or folks just getting into flipping and pitching I'd like to bring up a couple of points that imho you should pay attention too....

First.. Watch how he works the rod. He uses it as an extension of his arm as he never breaks his wrist.

Second... He's following the bait down with his arm, not his wrist.

Third...Watch his hand and how he holds the reel.

His thumb never leaves the spool but take special note of his thumb.

He places the crease on the spool not the thumbs pad.

And Forth...He is Pitching not Flipping.

I'd be happy just to be able to pitch like that lol. I picked up a few points from his technique and attempted to practice outside. But it's pouring rain... so I just pitched off the covered back patio onto the deck/back yard. I am definitely way more accurate and can pitch it a little farther but still much work to do. Still haven't figured out how to consistently launch it low like that while raising the rod up as high as he does. That's pretty cool, and I'll certainly try it now that I see what I've been doing wrong.

@Mike L Ya nailed it!  ?

While practicing in the yard helps develop fundamentals you can't learn how to follow a lure down through cover.

Y'all wanna know how I fish grass... that's it!

I throw into cover and grass quite a bit, but it's usually really close to shore (bank fisherman) so I generally just flip it in there or throw it past and drag it in. But based on that video I need more weight when doing that. There's a lot of tree roots/debris and thick grass where I do that at, and what he talks about "jiggling it down" I can fully relate to that. Hm, sounds like I need on rod set up just for doing that and the other for lighter rigging. Good info in this thread!
